When you're after an accounting book that covers the fundamental elements of Balance Sheets, P&L's and Cash Flows, this book is a great starting point. Walker provides clear explanations and effective examples for those wanting to get to grips with the basics of accounting.
Her non fuss approach to handling essential concepts and accounting practices make this an easy to understand, and helpful resource for anyone tackling this subject matter for the first time.

I recently graduated from an MBA course and whilst my own background is in Credit Analysis, this book was the core text for the Financial Reporting module so I bought it.
I bought it because, in my opinion, it is important not to be egotistical - I did find the module easy, but because I bought the text, and attended all the lectures, I knew what the lecturer required of me.
My fellow students, many of whom had no financial background, were pleased that I attended the lectures, and at the start, stated that they wanted to have an 'expert' to discuss issues with.
However, I received very few requests for my time, they didn't need me! This book explains in easy language what accounts are all about, who uses them and why, what each of the vital elements (P&L, balance sheet, cashflow statement) of the annual report and accounts is needed for, and what information is contained therein, and what is not!
This is an excellent book for anyone new to accounting who does not want to delve into the minutiae of IFRS / IAS accounting standards.
For the 'expert' it is a useful book, which enables one to keep one's feet on the ground, it is very sensible to have a text that takes you back to basics from time to time and so ensures that you do not end up under the influence of others who attempt to extol the virtues of the Emperors' new clothes.
A great text, and one I am using in my new job to educate others new to finance.
You will not regret the purchase of this book, and no, I am not receiving a fee for this review!!

Bought this book to help me through a finance module of my engineering degree. It covers exactly what I need to know and makes it very simple to understand. The only only thing it lacks are worked solutions which tackle more complicated questions - the examples included are good, but a little too basic.
