I do not like this book 18 May 2012
By Barbara - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The book is ok, but it leaves a lot to be desired. The graphics and diagrams in this book are nice. Even so, it lacks in detailed explanations of the lessons. If you already have a solid knowledge of accounting this book is for you. I would recommend investing in another book to use in addition to this one, if needed.
Great Accounting 1 book, too expensive though in my opinion 2 April 2012

Currently taking Accounting 1 as I am a marketing major, and this book very clearly explains accounting. I really enjoy the way the book is formatted. The graphics/ diagrams/ charts are all incredibly helpful. If I don't understand what my teacher is trying to say, or if I briefly forget the material taught in class when doing my homework, i have no problem turning to my book for help. My only complaint was that this book was incredibly hard for me, my peers, and my teacher to find used or at a discounted price.
A mixed review for this textbook 18 Dec 2011
By David - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The book is well organized however is lacking in its explanations at times. One instance of an explanation that leaves more to be desired involves T accounts in chapter two. I found that there needed to be an extra step of reasoning in the explanation.

Another complaint I have is how they used the word "capital" in chapter 1. First they describe capital as the owner's equity for a sole proprietorship. I have no problem with that as that is the definition I read in other places.

However then they describe the owner's equity as capital plus fees earned minus expenses. Again as I mentioned earlier capital is the owner's equity; my issue is they use capital later on as a component of the owner's equity since they said the equity was capital plus or minus other things.

I give this book three stars; its merits are the visual layout and organization. The drawbacks are 1) the lack of better explanations at times leaving me to figure things out for myself 2) their use of capital as mentioned above.
