2.0 out of 5 stars Alien Trilogy? I Think Not!, 29 Jun 2008

Mr. J. Arnold - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Alien Trilogy (PS) (Video Game)
Ok let me just start by saying im an Alien fan i love all the films including the awful Ressurection I even have the Alien Quadrilogy and This game where to start.

The Good

The game starts off good with a close hand in hand bond with the film even the impressive opening cutscene is taken from the famous scene of Aliens when the marines first arrive on lv426 and encounter the Alien.

Flaw number 1

WAIT STOP!! how is this Alien TRILOGY if the game starts at Alien 2?
Anyway You play as Ellen Ripley (about the ONLY thing besides the opening cutscene that relates to the movies) and the first mission is to clear out a path for the new colony to come to the planet and re form.
(Anyone remember this in any of the movies? no me neither).

The Aliens and some of the humans e.g the Alien containers seen at the end of Alien 3 (white bio suits) although very pixely and flat (think of Dooms graphics) are identifiable and look like the aliens from the movie with the exception of a few.

After the events sorry alterd events (by this game) of Alien 3, you find yourslef in a derelict spaceship fighting off "Infected" marines" Ok lets see why this is wrong, The "Infection" on the alien films involves a host being wrapped in a caccoon and facehugged so a chestburster can emerge and kill the host we all know that right? Where as this game the "Infection" means a pixelated Arnie look alike with a smart gun and acid blood attacks you also I dont remember their being more than 1 alien in Alien 3 and Armed prisoners attacking Ripley with guns.

In short story wise this game is NOT Alien Trilogy we all know and love its more like a typical cheap knock off with VERY short references to the films.
The AI is ok e.g. if an alien spots you and you run itll chase you all around the map, however if for some reason some random never before seen security gaurd sees you and an alien theyll team up and kick your arse and get along happily which to me doesnt sound like an Alien film/game.

The sound is really good in this game though if nothing else the guns all sound like they do in the movies and the aliens sound as they should not to mention the motion traker.
The Music is very atmospheric and suits the mood of every mission perfectly.

Overall. This game is fun to play if you just like shooting things in the same manner as Doom and Doom 2 but if you are buying this because like me you love the Alien series then i really wouldnt bother its really not worth even 89p.
This is one that should just be downloaded or borrowed of a friend.

Thank you for reading (please comment on the review if you have any questins thanks).

2.0 out of 5 stars Alien Trilogy Short Review, 6 Aug 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Alien Trilogy (PS) (Video Game)
Alien Trilogy isn't that bad a 3d shooter when you consider the small range available on the Playstation. The graphics are extremely pixelated and the aliens completely flat, but the sounds of the weapons and motion tracker are spot on. It trys to closely run along the theme of the films but doesn't succeed. Overall you'd be better off buying Aliens Vs Preadator which also lets you play as an Alien as well as Marine and the graphics and sound are completely spot on.
