Product Description

Coldplay, Muse, Oasis, The Manic Street Preachers, Radiohead ... Their

venues like The Joiners, an unassuming but much-loved backstreet pub in
downtown Southampton. ACCESS ONE STEP tells the story of the Joiners in the
words of the people who have lived, worked and played there.

Updated second edition with extra interviews, memories and photos.

From the Publisher

Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis, The Manic Street Preachers,
Radiohead ... Their careers could never have started without the help of
small, atmospheric venues like the Joiners, an unassuming but much-loved
backstreet pub in downtown Southampton. Richard Ashcroft cites the Joiners
as the venue of his greatest ever performance, the Manic Street Preachers
signed their record deal there and Oasis played there for £100. And every
day of the week, it stays loyal to the grass roots as it plays host to
local and up-and-coming bands.

ACCESS ONE STEP tells the story of the Joiners in the words of the people
who have lived, worked and played there.

"My whole life has been shaped by the Joiners" - Greg Gilbert, Delays

Stuffed with photos, memorabilia and contributions from all the main
players in the venue's history, ACCESS ONE STEP tells the remarkable and
sometimes moving story of an area of the music industry which has seldom
been explored.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE JOINERS SOUTHAMPTON 7 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book without knowing exactly what it was about & was delighted to read about this characterful pub. I remember pogoing & seriously worrying about the foundations along with a score or more in the eighties. I read my menopausal punk poetry here & remember yelling at people to belt up - and they did! It has always been a centre of new music - a venue a little lacking in facilities but none the worse for that. Praise to the landlords who care enough about music to keep the crowds coming in. I sometimes go down sadly decimated St Mary street and am chuffed to see queues of characters keeping Southampton culture alive. Long may it avoid the bulldozers. And thanks for writing this well researched and deserved tribute to The Joiners and all who cavort in her A BIG THANKS
