4.0 out of 5 stars Napoleon I - a brief history (1796-1815) 12 Sep 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
A basic textbook outlining the rise and fall of Napoleon I. The Napoleonic wars are dealt with in some detail, including a section on why Napoleon followed the path towards defeat from 1808. Napoleon's links with the revolution are analysed and Stiles looks at the effect of Napoleon on the revolutionary principles of liberty and equality. It is very useful as an A-Level text as Stiles does not attempt to simply push her own viewpoint. Instead the reader is encouraged to form their own opinion on the French General. It is also a good introduction to the topic for anyone who may be interested in Napoleon, or the history of France.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the AS course 7 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Book is easy to use and contains a helpful glossary. Sections at the end of each chapter give exam advice. I did find it lacked detail in places but covers everything you really need to know. Price is a bit steep!
