4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book with comprehensive coverage, 23 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Access 2000: The Complete Reference (Paperback)
Starting with the end in mind, this book goes on to build the knowledge necessary to create and operate effective Microsoft Access 2000 dadtbases. The MOUS type tests are excellent for determining the level of understanding you should attain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confusing book which is difficult to get round, 8 Nov 2001
This review is from: Access 2000: The Complete Reference (Paperback)
Access 2000 The Complete Reference is a confusing book which doesn't seem to know whether it is a reference book or teaching aid. It does neither well. I am quite an experienced user of Access but not particularly technical. I know what Access can do but found the book used so much technical jargon that it took me ages to find the section I wanted as I had to decipher the language before I was sure I had the right instructions. Why can't technical books start with questions to the reader which are written in plain English which then give you the language? For instance to a newcomer a "parameter query" is just jargon - better would be a question or statement saying what this is. It doesn't matter what level you are as a user - if you don't know what the language means you have no starting point. The examples are also confusing - Anderson uses them to explain how to do something rather than as an example - so if you don't use them you can't learn directly from her explanations. Her sections on Macros and Visual Basic are useless to the beginner. Don't buy this book if you are new to databases.
