I speak Spanish fluently, but my fiance does not, and I'm not the greatest teacher. We wanted to take a drip to Spain and he needed some passable Spanish to get by! This book was a great deal as he could study on his own time in the two weeks left before our trip, and feel confident he could easily get by without me in Spain. In fact he did a great job at the bars while I was shopping!

If you've tried and failed, using all those seductive tapes and discs and books that promise to teach you French or Japanese in less time than it takes to boil an egg, try this. Dearman's approach is startlingly sensible, original and down to earth. I just wish I'd come across something like this before wasting so much time on get-slick-quick methods or plodding text books that don't seem to have been updated since my schooldays. Great stuff -- and presumably equally applicable to any language at all.
