5.0 out of 5 stars Their best album so far, an instant classic 25 Jan 2012
By Smurf
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
You read it. I was actually a bit surprised myself, but this album, no matter how unlikely, beats all of their other records.

This record is apparently frontman Michael "Olga" Algar's favourite Toy Dolls album. No wonder.

It has everything that makes the Toy Dolls great multiplied by ten.

"Absurd-Ditties" has the rollercoaster feel of "Dig That Groove Baby", the hilarious sketches of "A Far Out Disc", the great songs of "Idle Gossip", the great guitar tracks of "Bare Faced Cheek", the memorable intro of "Wakey Wakey" and, of course, their trademark hilarious lyrics, and some of them are their funniest ever.

Sounds good enough, right? Well guess that, there is one thing that makes this disc better than all of the above. You may not even think about it, but it makes a huge difference. The production is perfect.

All of their other albums up to this point had flaws in their production and/or sound department. This record finally gets it right.

Where "A Far Out Disc" sounded muffled, "Idle Gossip" echoed as if the band was standing in a tunnel, and "Bare Faced Cheek" sounded empty, "Absurd-Ditties" RAWRS and captures the band at their very best. It is loud, funny, catchy and instantly memorable.

I love this album. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT miss this gem!

HIGHLIGHTS: "I'm a Telly Addict!", "Ernie Had a Hernia", "My Wife's a Psychopath", "Sod the Neighbours", "Melancholy Margaret", "Drooling Banjos", "Alec's Gone".

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absurd-lutely Brilliant Album 8 May 2005
Format:Audio CD
If like me you think the Toy Dolls are the most underrated band on the planet then you must think this album is amazing. But if you've never heard the Toy Dolls before then this album is a great place to start. 'Melancholy Margaret' is a work of genius and will instantly have you singing along to the chorus for weeks on end. The guitar work is outstanding (as always), and the lyrics are completely unique and add a very autobiographical tone to this masterpiece of an album. 'My Wife's a Psychopath' is hilarious and 'I'm A Telly Adict' is addictive. So come on punks buy this album cos i did and i love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet. 18 Sep 2000
By Reggie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is my favourite Toy Dolls album. Everything about it is great. This is trademark Toy Dolls stuff: bouncy, happy, fun, fast and energetic. If you have any of the older Toy Dolls releases on CD like Idle Gossip, Dig That Groove Baby, et al, you may have noticed that the sound quality on those recordings, although good, isn't as "up there" as it could be. You'll be pleased to know that the sound on Absurd-Ditties is really full and thick and sounds absolutely perfect. Also, Olga is at his guitar-playing peak on this album. His solos are amazing and will have you air-guitaring and jumping around in your room like a nutty fool. It's sure to leave you with a big grin.
