Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With Absolution, size is most definitely an issue. Hoping that it will finally propel them into the musical major leagues, Muse have set out to create a cross-genre monster, a contemporary meisterwerk, the biggest-sounding album in years. That they almost succeed is testament to their sky-high confidence and unarguable abilities. With just three members to draw upon, they've individually stretched themselves to fill in the inevitable sonic gaps. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme, in particular, does sterling work, producing a driving buzz to lift "Time Is Running Out" to a massive crescendo, then a rush of distortion that pushes "Hysteria" to Queen-like levels of ecstasy.

Throughout, Matt Bellamy adds classical grace with his tinkling, rolling grand piano, all the while moaning and shrieking out his fear of decay, destruction and death, like a traumatised Gene Pitney. Indeed, aside from their classical leanings and clear kinship with the prog-rock likes of Queen and Rush (there are some outbreaks of metal here), Muse often draw on classic pop, employing lush 1960s-style arrangements. With "Blackout" they go even further, daring to conjure Bacharach's "Magic Moments". If there's a weakness here, it's that the songwriting remains inconsistent, but this is usually covered up by musicianship and studio wizardry that leave Coldplay languishing in Muse's dust. --Dominic Wills

ABSOLUTLEY FABULOUS 30 Oct 2003
Format:Vinyl
First Off, a statement: with 'ABSOLUTION' Muse have risen-glided- even to a level that might seriously and honestly be labelled brilliance, and this their 3rd studio album, is a work of brilliance, from evry perspective and in every sense. From nothing more than a melody or phrase borne between Matt Bellamy's ears (Bellamy being Muse's sole songwriter)to something shaped by musicians, and finally how best to translate this live song to a permanent home on a silver disc that will be bought by strangers, and this cup to lip manouvere Muse managed without spilling a drop. In fact, 'Absolution' sounds instinctively and assuredly complete that it can be listened to in 2 very different ways- either as a collection of rock songs and nothing else, or as a work of art that can be stripped apart and admired from all manner of angles. As a body of work 'Absolution'makes no sense at all and perfect sense throughout, its songs are accessible and enjoyable, but also are full of the tiniest and most deliberate of details. Whether by intention or instinct, Muse have fallen into a more obvious form with Absolution, but have made their least obvious album yet. But perhaps most of all, Muse have made an album of such unapolagetic vastness that were it not for their talent, would have people up and across the country tring not to soil themselves with laughter. The first thing Matt Bellamy tells you on the album is that the world has just ended, which is a bit of a facer anyway, but on the first song? Where are they going to go for the next three quarters of an hour? And then you realise that Muse could write a record about travelling through the galaxy and you would then nod your head AAAhhhh.... Because Muse had every thing they need to grow into.. God knows what, because as long as Matt Bellamy writes songs without reference to anything outside of his imagination, then every morning for Muse and their fans will remain ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN DAY

This Cd is awe-inspiring.Matt Bellamy's voice is truly haunting and incredible to hear. The guitar, piano, bass and drums all fit perfectly together.I love this band.I saw them live in Vancouver in the fall and it was the best show I've even been to.This CD is truly one of the best I've ever heard. These three guys blow Radiohead out of the pond.
Absolutely Amazing 21 Jan 2005

After I heard HYSTERIA for the first time, I knew I had to have that CD. ABSOLUTION is such an amazing album; filled with sadness, melancholy and romance. The lead singer carries such a great voice, and the music seems so dark, yet hopeful.
There isn't a single song I would skip.
A MUST BUY.

After hearing this band the first time, I was struck by the vocal similarities of Matt Bellamy to Thome York, but that's where the similarities ended. This album is simply a brilliant musical achievement. Don't get me wrong I am a huge Radiohead fan, but I believe that Radiohead has lost their sense of creativity since OK computer. All the albums from then on have been unique to the point of sounding too experimental, and have drifted away from Rock. Muse represents a mixed bag of classical instruments, elctronic sounds, and most of all rock.I know this is a Muse review and I hate mentioning another band but Radiohead could take a lesson from Muse and stop producing post-human electronic records and simply stick to Rock n' Roll like they did in the Bends.
