The poet, the frontman and the band., 26 Jan 2004
Jimbo exorcises an Eliot(T.S.)-like version, of his own 'Wasteland'. The magnificent 'Celebration of the lizard'promotes the poet in him, to legendary standing. What can I say, other than it being a gift of genius status? Powerful imagery, madness of story, power of voice. This is as good a poem as it gets-and as frontman, Morrison whips it across in a frenzy-ranging from the subtle, murmuring introduction, to the all-consuming spat of infused calamity: "now...run to the mirror in the bathroom. Look! She's coming in here! I can't live through each slow century of her moooving..." Densmore rattles along like a crazy monster, Manzarek screams with his fingers, Krieger whoops in a frenzy. 'Who do you love' introduces us to the sign of things to come. The medley, excellently executed, with 4 classic Doors tracks in there-even if we include Brecht/Weills 'Alabama song'-still better than yours, Mr. Bowie! They 'Build me a woman' in their own way. And then, close to the finest track- the magnificent 'When the musics over'. I could dream in those melodies and chords. Ray, on 'Close to you', is, I think, a little suspect, but-hey, who cares? The beautiful 'Universal mind' and then the crowd stirring 'Petition'. And I love the marriage in the second medley: 'Dead rats, dead cats/Break on through'. Biased, I may be, but no different to any appreciator of an artwork that rips at their soul. If you don't believe me, at least give it a listen.

Absolutely Great, 20 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Originally released as a double LP in 1970, Absolutely Live is a fantastic testimony of the Doors live experience . This is not only powerful versions of the band classics (Break On Thru, Five To One, When The Music's Over...), but also 50% (at least ) of original material : the beautiful Universal Mind, the bluesy Build Me A Woman, a killer cover of Bo Diddley's Who Do You Love, and, above all, the amazing Celebration Of The Lizard (forget the cut off Doors Box Set version). The only bad point is the CD cover : for unknown reasons, Elektra didn't reprint the original blue sleeve, but choose a pop star Jim Morrison picture instead. Never mind, it still remains one of the best live album ever. Absolutely indispensable.
