Having spent the beginning of my working life in Germany, in the early eighties, I was bought up on George Benson. I've owned a cd of his for years. The experience of watching this DVD has taken my love of his music to another level. The concert has been filmed in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. The sound and ambience is fantastic on surround sound. As the concert unfolds the tempo gets faster and faster and as Turn Your Love Around starts to play, the audience starts to get up and dance. I must admit...I did too in my living room...but dont tell anyone! The mood is infectuous and I challenge you not to want to move. The crescendo is On Broadway and you will not be disappointed. I've always loved this song...but to see it played live and to listen to George singing..just awesome. I can't recommend this DVD enough.

In this concert, George Benson shows many sides of his talent, from singng standards with a big band and full orchestra backing, to playing superb jazz guitar with his own group. His playing with guest piano player Joe Sample, and his solo performance of "Danny Boy" are further examples of his mastery of the guitar. This concert also includes some of his popular ballads.

This review is based on the DVD version, as sadly no Blu-Ray exists for this sublime performance by George Benson, which was filmed live at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast.
What can you say about a man who's been a star for decades? This live performance is 'absolutely' top notch and is one of my very top favourite concerts to listen to never mind watch!

I love all the tracks on this DVD, and when you consider George's vast back catalogue, it has to be a huge complement indeed to say, that virtually any of his songs/tunes would have pleased me, especially if this was the standard I got in return for my cash.

The tracks on this DVD give a very fair insight into the man and his music, and I would thoroughly recommend this DVD if you've liked any of his previous work.
The DVD also features Joe Sample, the BBC Big Band and musicians from the Ulster Orchestra, as well as George's own band.

The picture quality and the sound are well up (for a standard definition DVD), and indeed compare well to other Blu-Ray Discs I've purchased where the picture quality was not much better.

For the purists out there, I use a Samsung LED HDTV and a Sony 3D Blu-Ray player for the visuals and the music is fed to my valve amps and Anthony Gallo Speakers via a dCS Elgar DAC, with a Yamaha Receiver used for the Centre and Surround speakers.

The Standard 2 channel audio mix is excellent on this DVD and the 5.1 mix is also very good (indeed I enjoy both equally). If your looking for a DVD to completely chill out to, and with the price on Amazon now under £5.00, buy it, you'll be glad you did.

If Eagle Vision are listening, please, please release a Blu-Ray version, I would buy it even if it cost £25.00.

The listing says "Released in 2007" but the cover says 2000. This DVD is superb and has a wonderful additional extra on 'The Making of...' Benson is joined on stage by Joe Sample for the jazzier numbers during the first half of the DVD (Joe Sample of the Crusaders fame and also a fine solo artist of our time Street Life The Collection

Our main man selects songs and tunes that have stood the test of time and the second half is just hit after hit. There is a sequence where a member of the audience jumps on stage and tries to sing duet with Benson - at first it looks perfectly innocent but then the camera pans to the audience which clearly met the lady in question was led from the stage by the bouncers!

The sound quality is excellent but the editing at times is rather amateur, indeed there is a break that is badly edited toward the closing stages. Perhaps this poor editing at times reflects the price of the DVD overall.

The editing points do not attract from the quality of the music and performance by our main man in my humble opinion. The DVD is also useful to gain some anecdotal information as Benson addresses the audience and of course gleaned from 'The Making of...' It is a great concert, superb musicians and orchestra and the song selection is spot on. My favourites in this set are 'Deeper Than You Think', 'This Masquerade' and 'On Broadway.'

Surely the day must come when Benson, Earl Klugh, Joe Sample, Wilton Felder, Bob James, David Samborn, Paulinho Da Costa, Greg Philliganes, Steve Gadd and co, all do their thing on stage one last time???

Wow, I really can't get enough of this dvd , superb example of George Benson's complete master of vocal & guitar excellence , I play this dvd frequently ,the atmosphere from this concert is amazing , His own band , Joe Sample from "THE CRUSADERS" are exceptional , complementing Georges style perfectly & The "BBC BIG BAND" accompaniment is second to none. What a shame it was never released on music cd . However I do have a copy of "Absolute Benson" with some of the same titles as on the dvd , well worth a purchase!ABSOLUTE BENSON
