Product Description

Album Description

Take two labels : resonant and static caravan a love of Japanese underground music and what do you get ? a brand new 80 minute trip through the coolest weird n wonderful sounds from the AMT mothership on 2 cd's.

who are ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE ? : A freak-out group for the 21st century founded in 1996 by members of the Acid Mothers Temple soul-collective. Led by Kawabata Makoto (Musica Transonic. Toho Sara, etc.) a 100% genuine cult band that are on a mission to give you massive frontal lobe damage.

what they sound like ? : Good question, imagine spending an acid tinged weekend up a Japanese mountain with only a battered tape player for company. the sounds emanate as and when they wish, it might be a snatch of ear shredding guitar noise, an ambient electronic pulse, traditional folk or the sweet sound of a handmaiden warbling ..whatever you hear it's never boring and you never guess what's coming next

The door is open… 10 Feb 2006
Format:Audio CD
The perfect intro to the wild and wacky world of the Acid Mothers Temple Soul Collective. Kawabata Makoto's recorded oeuvre is bewilderingly large (at least 4 versions of Acid Mothers Temple; High Rise; Mainliner; solo works; Tsurubami; Ueh; Space Machine…), and growing by the month. Does this man never sleep??

'Absolutely Freak Out!' is THE place to start: the double-CD set that first got Kawabata noticed (relatively) big-time in the UK, and for good reason. There's not a lot of point trying to describe it; just imagine every moment in rock history when psychedelia got out of control, and edit them all together. Or imagine Hawkwind with Hendrix on guitar, playing Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa covers in a large aircraft hangar, with the doors open and a strong wind blowing.

Other Acid Mothers Temple recordings offer more folk or more metal or more drone, but this is the band in full-spectrum-retro-cosmic-rock mode and just offers … more. Of everything you could possibly imagine.

Not for the faint-hearted, the petty, the literal, the impatient, "indie rock" fans, chin scratchers, those who can play Stairway to Heaven note perfect on a nylon-strung guitar or those whose idea of psychedelic excess is saying "Man" and "Wow" and "Check this OUT!" over and over whilst listening to Sgt. Pepper.

There is no point describing this music. It drones, dirges and swirls on and on and on until you fall over in a heap, dribbling and begging for Nursey.

Perfect.

Two solid hours of your typical Acid Mothers Temple brain-damaging wall of space noise-rock to be fully taken in. On this 2-CD offering, AMT had apparently become a 12-piece. Only comment I could make about 'Absolutely Freak Out' is that it could have JUST as easily been cut down to a one-disc release. Best tracks here are the nineteen minute "Supernal Infinite Space", "Grapefruit March" and the tripping twenty-four minute slab of sonic mayhem "Children Of The Drab". Recommended, if you're a major Acid Mothers fan, like myself.
