This classic story finally gets the format every comic masterpiece should be published like.

There's nothing wrong with the artwork and this epic story still keeps up.

I can't be happier with the 130+ pages of extras, also.

After reading the original Kingdom Come paperback countless times over the years i lent it to a mate who was instantly converted to graphic novels by it. It was a bit moth eared and after seeing the absolute edition i decided to "step up" and bought it (said mate well chuffed with the free gift of the earlier version hehe) and what can i say?....perfection springs to mind...i would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone, the artwork is masterful and the storyline second to none, and the extras just enhance the experience even more. Well done to all involved.

What can i say.....WOW! Friggin' Amazing! Alex Ross and Mark Waid have created one of the greatest stories ever to be told! This plus the additional artwork make this product a must have for ALL graphic novel collectors! The section in the book which gives detailed accounts for all the hidden 'in-jokes' and mentions every character that makes an appearance in the frames, even if its part of an arm etc! If you are reading this...for the love of Zod, buy ths now!

Watch my video review 30 Aug. 2012

Format: Hardcover
One of many absolute edition reviews i made, largely so you can get a feel for the look of the book as well as its bonus features. my vids are mostly about the particular addition, with minimal critique of the story/art itself.

Bad reproduction. Really probably better off with the trade paperback. 23 Oct. 2006
By David Moran - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
On the outside, this is a gorgeous volume, and it looks good on a bookshelf. However I don't recommend anyone be introduced to Kingdom Come this way. I don't know if its the enlarged pages or what, but the reproduction of Alex Ross's glorious art looks surprisingly grainy, with rather dull and degraded colors. It really looks like crap, and everyone I've shown this edition to agrees.

Kingdom Come is a great story, which is why this still gets four stars, but DC Comics get a huge middle finger for making the actual COMIC look so ugly on the page.

Buy the trade. It's about sixty bucks cheaper and looks much, much better.

Great book but beware of 3rd printing 28 Feb. 2012
By Aaron Gallant - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is really very nice. It is leather bound, contains lots of cool extras, oversized pages, and a slipcover with additional artwork from Alex Ross. Some reviewers have complained that this book looks grainy compared to standard copies. I looked at the book side by side with the paperback trade and only noticed a very minor difference. There is a slightly more grainy look to the absolute edition but even when compared to other editions, it is barley noticeable. The pages are larger and it seems like it is pretty normal to have a little more grain when any image is enlarged. It doesn't bother me in the least.

The reason I took one star off is because there is an issue with the third printing which is the most recent as of the date I am writing this (Feb. 2012). On page 104 of the 3rd printing there is no text where there should be text. The art, boxes, and dialog bubble are there but just no text. Not that big of a deal if you are buying just to read but I would imagine that most people buy the expensive absolute version as a collector's item. Amazon was really cool and replaced my first book with a new one but the new one had the same problem. I ended up finding a 3rd party seller that had an older edition and that had the text. I love this book and recommend it if you for sure know you are getting a 1st or 2nd printing. Since purchasing this book I noticed that Amazon took it off their list and you can only buy it from 3rd party sellers which indicates that they realize the problem. I imagine DC will release a 4th printing with the correct text placement but if you can't wait try to get a 1st or 2nd printing.

Absolutely Stunning 7 Nov. 2006
By Edward A. Sampson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
When I read Kingdom Come for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. After reading it though ,I can tell you I was completely blown away. I had never seen Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman portrayed like this before. The themes in Kingdom Come are very dark and realistic. It is about the price of being a hero. When DC anounced they were releasing a special edition to commemorate the tenth anniversary, I was a bit skeptical at first. How much better could this storyline be? Let me tell you that this story line is just as compelling as the first time through. The beautiful artwork from the great Alex Ross is preserved in this over-sized edtiton along with a slipcase cover featuring new artwork from the master artist. There is so much supplementary material icluded that any hardcore fan will truly appreciate it. Kindom Come is an underrated story that derserves to stand up there with The Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns as one of the greatest comic storylines of all time. It still resonates with the themes of today's society. This is a classic that no fan should miss.
