Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Santana's 1970 follow-up to their Woodstock-propelled smash '69 debut found leader Carlos Santana further expanding his San Francisco group's already broad musical boundaries. To wit: two hit singles that emanated from opposite ends of the spectrum--"Black Magic Woman", originally written and recorded by English blues-rock guitarist Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac, and New York Latin percussionist/dance music king Tito Puente's infectious "Oye Como Va". Tying blues, rock, and salsa together in one pan-cultural package, Abraxas also featured such standout tracks as "Gypsy Queen", "Singing Winds", and "Crying Beasts". The latter two underscored the growing Eastern sensibilities of guitarist Santana. --Billy Altman

Incredibly good 6 July 2000
Format:Audio CD
This is an amazing, deep and beautiful record. Each track is superb, but there are several - "Mother's Daughter" and "Samba Pa Ti" for my money - which are out of this world. I've been playing little else for about 2 weeks since I bought it, and anyone who likes guitar music can't go wrong here. Masterful.

Of the 20 or so Santana albums I've owned over the years, this is my favourite. Listen to Singing Winds, Crying Winds on a decent hi-fi system and feel the shivers down the back of your spine - fantastic! The mix of percussion, searing keyboards and the trademark Santana guitar sound deliver a musical feast, to which you will want to come back for more. A must for any Santana fan's collection.

Abraxas 25 Jun 2008
By Dmtembo
Format:Audio CD
This is the first santana record I ever liked and bought in the 70s.The sound gets better each time you play this record and there is nobody(singer, band etc) to compare with this great santana line up which provided the world with this great gift of music. All songs are great song-wise and rock-wise and trust me when I say this is pure art!The true magic in this album and band is the unique combination of different types of music(afro music, latin american music and western rock music) all coming together as one blended in harmony under the stewardship of Carlos Santana producing an awe inspiring sound that has stood the test of time ."Mother's Daughter","Black magic Woman","samba pati" "Se Nkabo" are all timeless classics that Carlos himself has failed to beat to date. This ,without a doubt,is the greatest rock album ever.

Monumental album and essential in any music collection.

Brilliant and critical to Santana's success
A fusion of Blues/Jazz, Latin and Rock. It was groundbreaking at the time because it was cross cultural from Peter Green's `Black Magic Woman' (Blues), `Oye Como Va' (Latin) and... Read more

It's usually a sign of an album's reputation when so many Amazon reviews are concerned only with the quality of a reissue and not the original contents as is the case here. Read more
