Product Description

Here is a new edition of this popular trumpet tutor. It has a bright new cover giving it a fresh look. It is now also available with an optional playalong CD. As well as enabling the pupil to hear how the pieces sound, the CD is invaluable for ensemble experience, and offers all the fun of playing with an accompaniment - perfect for home practice and concerts alike. Performed by professional musicians, the CD demonstrates each piece on trumpet and piano.

This book is great if you have a tutor who can help you with reaching the right notes, but is not much use if you need guidance on how to hit those notes by yourself or need technical advice on either correct blowing technique or even basic care & maintenance of the trumpet. The CD is not really worth paying the extra for and misses out the duets, which is a real shame. It is also far too orchestrated and would have been excellent if it was a 'raw'solo trumpet sound that the pupil could play along to and 'duet' with (i.e. as if they had another pupil to play along with). Otherwise the tunes are quite modern and a varied range from classical to swing - many familiar and some less so to provide a challenge. It was handy to have the page of scales in the back of the book too. If you follow the whole book to completion, you will be a fairly reasonable trumpet player!

Whilst this is a good book as recommended by my son's music tutor, we should have bought the version with the CD to accompany it. Trumpet is hard to play solo, and the tunes are unfamiliar. Would have been useful to hear what they 'should' sound like!
