4.0 out of 5 stars What the ???, 21 Jan 2009
By Foxylock (Ireland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
First of all I must say this was my first foray into the shadowy world of conspiracy theories and I was slightly surprised to find this book as riveting as I actually did. But enough about me.

Jim Marrs presents us with an authentic looking dossier of unexplained and intriguing happenings primarily in the US. Some of these you would have come across before like the JFK conspiracy or Roswell. But some of the chapters here are truly bizarre, the sighting of chemtrails in the sky is one that made me do a double take, also tacmar signs anyone ? I enjoyed the chapters involving UFO activity and Marrs does seem to have some pretty incontrovertible evidence here.

I know this book is supposed to be an overview of " the mysteries of the digital age " but I do think that a more voluminous book is needed here, also the lack of any imagery knocks the credibility a bit. But that being said I did enjoy it and my appetite for this subject has been well and truly whetted. Maybe if you're an established conspiracy theorist the content of this book will appear a little meagre but if your a virgin like myself its a good starting point.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good overviews for conspiracy newbies, 29 Dec 2008
By Rouchie (Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews

I have read numerous books by author Jim Marrs in the last couple of years, with varying opinions each time. Above Top Secret is generally an overview of the most popular conspiracy stories. The book provides a good introduction to each topic, then provides some evidence to support each one, and finally includes contributions taken from the AboveTopSecret.com website.
Although many different topic areas are covered (including a few I wasn't aware of, e.g. chem-trails), the book doesn't go into much detail for any of the topics. This is noticeably different from other books by Marrs that have huge amounts of information and supporting evidence.
As with other books though, this one does a good job of making you think that humans are treated like cattle at the hands of the secret super-elite that dominate the world. Will we ever get to know about what the military are really up to, and will 2012 mark the end of our patience at being treated like this? I hope so...!
I enjoyed reading this book but found it very frustrating that Marrs claims certain topics (the UFO that hovered over Phoenix) were well photographed and even videoed, as the book has no photos or images to help illustrate the subject matter. When reading certain chapters, you really feel that a few images would have made the book more interesting. Also some of the web user contributions are hard to read as they are printed in white on a light-blue background.
Therefore my advice to buyers is to get this book if you're new to the whole topic of conspiracy theories and want some pointers on which topics you wish to research further. For the hardened conspiracy fans out there, this title probably won't give you enough new information to satisfy your cravings...!
