Having read Red Dahlia and Bella Mafia I am on a Lynda La Plante purge. I have just finished Above Suspicion and all I can say is WOW what a thoroughly enjoyable read. I wished I had read this before Red Dahlia though as Above Suspicion is the first with the characters Langton and Travis.

I was actually really feeling for poor Travis, her first murder case and arriving at the station, nobody took her on. Langton with his bellowing and bawling at her along with his put me downs making her flush with embarassment. It also made me laugh out loud the bit when they were on the plane and he was being his usual horrible self to her and she then came to the decision she hated him. Two minutes later he was nice to her and she retracted that decision and decided no, she really liked him. So so lifelike to reality (I know I have done that)

A very enjoyable story, made my heart race a couple of times and I look forward to the next episode of Langton and Travis.

The last few LLP books I have read haven't been great so I started this one with trepidation - after page 1 I was hooked! I stayed up half the night reading and blamed the fact that I had bags under my eyes on my 11 week old son. Suffice to say after doing the motherly duties, I kept on reading and had the book finished within 24 hours <i know, i know, terrible mother!>. It reminded me of Prime Suspect, LLP at her best but I felt this was better. I sincerely hope she caries on with this character as she is just great. I am already looking forward to her next book

I enjoyed this book. The plot is fairly unoriginal and quite unconvincing at times. The detectives involved eventually solve the case by making a series of discoveries tenously linked to the crime and the romance between Travis and Langton seems forced. However, it is very engaging and did keep my interest. I quite liked the way that the detectives knew who the killer was but the focus was on how to prove that they were the killer. But at the same time it does keep you guessing. If you are looking for a crime thriller that is entertaining but easy to read and unchallenging after a long day at work or on the beach then you will probably enjoy this. I liked it enough to go out and buy the next book.

Prime suspect, televised, was superb. I haven't read the book so can't comment on the quality of the writing. This book read as if it had been transcribed from a screenplay (maybe it has been?). There was far too much telling: (Sergeant blah blah then went to so and so and discovered xyz and presented it to Langton the next day...), and not enough characterisation. I want to be inside the characters' heads and I never really felt as if I was; I was being told what had happened all the time...and I got very fed up with that ....

It's a procedural, fair enough, so I can forgive the lack of action, but I just found the plot unbelievably tedious. Skipped the last third, read the last chapter or two and didn't feel as though I'd missed much. I'd go for DI Banks instead next time ...

I loved this book and really loved Travis and Langton. Great story as well, with plenty of twists and turns.

This was the first book I have read from this author and very good I found it too. A very easy read and fast-moving story although finding a few legal errors were disappointing. Read it on and off over three days and would certainly read more by this author again.
