I'm not entirely sure how many words there are to say just how good this album is. It's the kind of record I remember from my youth, when I still had dreams and was looking for music to match.
It makes sense, therefore, that Sweden's Bad Habit has been on the go since 1986, mainly dealing in high quality AOR, although their last record, "Hear Say" was a somewhat heavier offering, that didn't really work for me. However, this is an immense work, probably the best of their career, something that should encourage bands resting on their eighties laurels to try a little bit harder.
It's everything that a melodic rock album should be, glistening guitars, spot on harmonies and big choruses. There is barely a single missed step on this album, something I found rather unbelievable when I was looking back over my listening notes. There's normally something on even the best albums but Bad Habit have done something I thought I might never hear again. Made a near perfect record.
Most of the songs touch on the usual AOR lyrical concerns - love, love and love. But there is a weight and experience behind the music that gives them a touch more depth than most. Tunes like 'I Don't Want You', 'Don't Want To Say Goodbye', 'Let Me Tell You' and the absolutely stunning title track are fully deserving of classic status, and hopefully there are enough melodic rock fans out there to give this some impetus.
Every one of the performers is on peak form, the production is rich and crisp, and if it weren't for the song 'My Confession', this would have got a perfect score. If melodic rock is your thing, then this is an absolutely essential purchase.
