Love the stories by Sherryl Woods, she is a lovely writer, you love to get to know all the families and it takes you away to a pleasant world away from problems for a while, especially while reading in the garden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great romance 22 Jan 2006
Format:Paperback
This author knows how to draw you in. The book flew by. She writes character that you want to know what happens to. The basic story is fairly simple and you can guess how its going to end, but the journey is worth it. Fast page tuner worth the money. I'm now looking for the next one about the brother Bobby.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quite a disappointment! 1 Jun 2014

This is the first Sherryl Woods book I've read and after this I don't think I'll bother with any others. I usually like these type of stories set in small town USA with lots of different characters, interesting sub-plots, humour and likeable personalities but there were none here. The plot had potential but most of the characters were one dimensional stereotypes, rather pedestrian and incapable of holding my interest for any length of time. I gave up reading before I was half way through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent characterisation 20 May 2014

I liked the character of Daisy in this book, she is unusual for a romance heroine and she keeps her character throughout the book (although she rather loses her uniqueness in the next two books of the series). I liked Walker as well as he tried hard to do the right thing without being quite sure what it was. I was a bit bemused by the attraction of this very different pair to one another and am not quite sure that the author convinced me of it but the strength of the book was such that I was drawn along by the characters.

The story here is an interesting one and the very real challenges of fostering and guardianship are explored although it is fair to say that this is not a book which examines these matters in any great depth. It's a pleasant read and quite gripping in places.

I did become very irritated by the gossiping neighbours and the moral tone of the town. This is a theme that this author has used before - she sees small towns as supportive on the one hand but smothering and judgmental on the other. I think that she emphasised this too much in this book and the situation was exaggerated.

If you enjoy small town romances you will enjoy this one despite my reservations because the characters are well depicted and the book is written with humour and understanding. Nothing too deep or complex but entertaining.
