Book Description

29 May 1997
About the Border Terrier Journalist and travel writer Verite Reily Collins has always had a Border Terrier with which to share her life. This book deals with the delights (and perils!) of a Border Terrier ownership. As well as a history of the breed, it includes many anecdotes, humourous and touching, about Border Terriers and their owners. Chapters dealing with practical topics include a detailed one on travelling with dogs, and Steve Dean and Johanna Farrer have contributed chapters on breeding and agility respectively About the Border Terrier will appeal to anyone who is interested in the breed. More importantly, if you feel you would like to own one, Verite Reily Collins hopes that her book will help you decide whether this delightful terrier, bred for work and retaining all its working instincts, is the right dog for you.

First Sentence
Watching a typical Border curled in front of the fire, with its nose almost touching the logs, or laying claim to the softest cushion on a chair, you would find it difficult to believe that these terriers belong to one of the toughest working dog breeds. Read the first page

The book is well presented with an eye-catching cover and interior. Whether you are using this book as a reference book, or just for a good read, it is ideal for those who have an interest in the border terrier or dogs in general.

The author obviously has a great interest in the
border terrier and her love of dogs in general shines throughout the book. You get a definite feel for the breed she writes about.

The book is an excellent reference book that you can turn to time and time again - you don't have to be a serious border terrier breeder to want to refer to the book more than once.

The book is written straight to the point, and the extensive research is obvious, it does not contain the "waffle" that many similar books contain and is written in terms that can be understood by all.

This book is a credit to the author who obviously knows her stuff - let's hope there are more "doggie" books in the pipeline.

A charming book packed with information, useful addresses and contacts. The book is well researched with humerous stories and matter of fact anecdotes from real Border Terrier owners, breeders, judges and working enthusiasts, it portrays the breed as it really is, warts and all! If you have never owned a Border Terrier before, this book is a must read before you embark on ownership and once you own one you will find you will refer to it time and time again.

A well written book, by a very clued up owner/writer. Great pictures and basically everything you need to know about this wonderful breed. I am a dog man and have been for many years, read many books and owned various breeds. This book has sold the border terrier to me and we will definetly be sharing our lives with one or two in the future.
