Review

'Aboriginal art has been put on the map and this book provides a sure-footed guide' - The World of Interiors 'Offers extremely detailed and confident interpretations' - The Times Literary Supplement

Product Description

Aboriginal artists today practise in one of the world's longest continuous tradition of art - and perhaps the last to be generally recognised. Widely sought after, aboriginal art has now taken its place in the cozlections of leading museums and galleries. This concise survey looks at the work of Australia's indigenous visual artists from all parts of the continent. Building on traditions that stretch back at least 50,000 years, many of the artists have worked in a variety of contexts, from the sacred and secret realm of ceremony to more public spheres, and in media including painting, sculpture, engraving, constructions, weaving and - most recently - photography, printmaking and textile design.

An essential primer 19 Jun 2001
Format:Paperback
I bought a copy of this last year to read before a trip to Australia. I knew very little about Aborigine art but this is an excellent introduction to this fascinating culture with such a vast and powerful art history.

Coverage is given to the various regions of Australia, pointing out differing cultures, environments, subject matter, styles and techniques. I was also pleased to discover it gave coverage not just to the traditional arts but also to more contemporary works, pointing out both the continuations and differences.

By Mr. GF Settle VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my son as a reference guide for his GCSE Art. The original at school had been knicked as it was so popular.

He produced a Brilliant piece of work inspired by it's content and pictures. He used ther inspiration from the art to produce a map from his home to school in the style of the Aboriginees on a massive pot from B&Q.

If you want a great little book on the subject then buy this.
