A Great Read! 20 July 2012

I normally see 3 stars as a negative but I really enjoyed this book but couldn't put it in the same category as Captain America by Burbaker or Incorruptible by Waid which I put in the 4 star category.

Valen is very much like an undead Conan. He has lost his kingdom, is single minded in his quest and determined to not let anything stop him. He gathers small group as he quests in a warring land to take back his soul, all of whom have their own stories that are hinted at but not revealed.

The first couple of issues jump right into the action and plot. The characters come together quickly and you are thrown in this story with hints of the larger world yet to be explored.

These issues don't give much reason to care about the story but pull you through with plots that are to the point some competent art and hints of more out there.

With issue 3 you begin to see a the bigger conflict, get some exciting developments and connect with the characters with issue four finishing up an exciting arc.

This is a book with a solid premise, an interesting, low-fantasy world and characters that grow on you. Worth your time and I can't wait for more to come.

Boom Studios is offering a lot of great options and I hope it continues.

i bought this for the art. i follow Matteo Scalero 's work. this is definitely some of his early work. the read is quick and story telling flows well. but the story is a little weak. maybe i've just read too many comic books.
