Product Description

Product Description

Now in its Ninth Edition, Abnormal Psychology gives students the opportunity to explore the latest theories and research in our ever–changing search for answers to the complex questions of psychopathology. The authors invite students to search for clues, follow–up on hunches, evaluate evidence, and participate in a process of discovery as they sift through the evidence on the origins of psychopathology and the effectiveness of specific interventions.

In the new edition, Davison and Neale welcome new coauthor Ann Kring (University of California, Berkeley), who brings her interest and expertise in emotion and psychopathology, as well as an emphasis on gender, ethnicity, and culture. In addition, new pedagogy and a more open layout make the book more accessible to all students.

Abnormal Psychology 29 Oct 2008
Format:Hardcover
This was the recommended text for my mental health module and I didn't hold out high hopes given the quality of past recommended texts, but I was pleasantly surprised. It goes into depth, but it's easy to understand, even the biological aspects of mental health issues that usually give me a headache. There are lots of examples of case studies relating to the topic being discussed. There are also focus boxes which contain interesting articles. The best thing about this book was the fact that it took you through the stages of disorders...starting with the classification, description, possible causes through to treatment, bot by medication and therapy. Th book not only describes treatments and causes but evaluates them too, which is a very useful base to build knowledge on.

This is an excellent book, particularly for students studying psychology or counselling. The book gives a detailed overview of psychiatric disorders and theories behind them.It also looks at the various treatments available and is written in an easy to understand manner.
A must read or reference book for anyone interested in abnormal psychology.

Highly recommended! 15 Jan 2011
Format:Hardcover
I personally really recommend this book to psychology students who are studying or intend to study abnormal psychology. It is an exhaustive book which covers classification systems, the different psychological paradigms of abnormal behaviour, and also different psychological and biological explanations, and treatment of different mental disorders across the DSM-IV.

The book is easy to read with structured sections within each mental disorder i.e. the diagnostic symptoms, etiology and treatment. Quite useful to consolidate learning after lectures, to write essays, and to write notes for revision.

Definately worth the purchase...I found that this one book was enough to get me through the module and exams...a must have!
