One of the Abbey Road series,
By Richard "Alice Collector" (Blackpool England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: At Abbey Road 1963-1967 (Audio CD)
With 4 unreleased songs and a commercial test version as the first track it at least isn't called 25 Greatest Hits
As part of the British Invasion the group had just one album issued on the Imperial label but were actually represented in the States in 1963 with Tina Robin's version of Its too late now which was an original composition. However they relied mainly on covers and their version of Don't make me over was praised by Dionne Warwick .

Wonderful British Invasion Group (maybe Beatles at work),
By Jerry Dunham - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: At Abbey Road 1963-1967 (Audio CD)
The Swinging Blue Jeans had 3 charting singles:Hippy Hippy Shake,You're No Good and Good Golly Miss Molly.
One charting album. Many of the lp cuts,B-sides,demos and hits are here. Let's talk about previously unreleased material;any album that starts with Louis Armstrong's Old Man Mose(he kicked the bucket) is alright with me. Now I must leave the realm of reality and go off on one of my mystery tangents. John and Paul(of Beatle famed)worked closely with the Baby Beatle groups,Peter&Gordon,Billy J Krammer and the Dakotas, and others. It was rumoured that Young Beatle George worked closely with the Swinging Blue Jeans. He leant them guitar work, arrangements and his vocals. In fact that may be him on the previously unreleased songs. This Boy being one of them. I know one of the blue jeans has a very similar voice to George's and it is so darn close that it makes one wonder. I played Old Man Mose,Don't Make Me Over,Shake Rattle and Roll,It's In Her Kiss, and others for a friend who happens to be a Beatlemaniac. He swears up and down that it is George Harrison singing. He maybe right! Obtain a copy and see for yourself. It's odd that other cds in this Abbey Road series in their liner notes and photos show John &Paul all over the place. This one however only mentions This Boy matter of factly composed by Lennon/McCartney. The lack of gushing about the Fabs speaks louder than words. It's Them! or ..er..It's Him! I'm going on like Eric Idle from the Rutles. Anyhow, give yourself a treat and get this and you'll be in Mersybeat Heaven.Another thing,it's 28 cuts! Where has all this material been all these years? hmmm? |
