I am a great fan of world music and bought this album on the strength of having heard a single track on a sample album from a music magazine. This is one of the best CD's I own.
The entire album is outstanding. The music is broadly speaking a combination of gospel, african choir and blues music. The accompaniment to the voices is generally minimal with the music being carried by the vocal harmonies, the best example of this is the track Ebumnadini which is completely unaccompanied. The resulting sound is amazingly rich, textured and often enormously exciting. If your previous exposure to african music is ladysmith then I can't recommend this album enough, this music is far more dynamic and modern. I challange anyone to hear Mdavu the man and then walk away.
