Book Description

12 Nov 2009
The woman had been missing for almost eight years.

Someone watched her, stalked her, kidnapped her, and held her captive in the dark all that time. No ransom demand, and no suspects. No answers, even now that the woman has been found - thrown from an unmarked car in front of a beachside wedding - alive but unbearably traumatised.

All she can do is scream.

Tracking a kidnapper who appears to have no motive, FBI Special Agent Smoky Barrett and her team are plunged into the most sinister and disturbing case of their careers.

Then they start to find the others.

Product Description

Review

'Scary-as-hell...shocking, gruesome, and terrifying...a perfect book for fans of Deaver, Koontz and King' (Amazon.com (Editor's Pick) on THE FACE OF DEATH )

'Mcfadyen is one of those authors who seems to surpass himself with every new book, and THE DARKER SIDE is no exception. I read this book in less than a day as I was utterly unable to put it down...With each new book written, the characters reveal more layers about themselves and grow further' (crimesquad.com on THE DARKER SIDE 20080701)

'Readers of Cody Mcfadyen's previous books will recognise descriptions in the reviews of both titles: shocking...terrifying...brilliant. Well, I wouldn't argue against his latest serial-killer outing, THE DARKER SIDE, receiving more of the same, and in spades...I found myself desperate to know who the killer was and why he or she was doing it. And surely that is what good thriller writing is all about.' (Shots Mag on THE DARKER SIDE 20080701)

'Terrifically good, terrifically scary . . . very hard to put down' (San Francisco Chronicle on SHADOW MAN 20060702)

3.0 out of 5 stars A Dark Thriller. 29 Jan 2010
By J.Flood
Format:Paperback
A severely traumitised woman is thrown from a car in front of a beachside wedding. It transpires that the woman has been held captive, in the dark for many years. Agent Smoky Barrett and her FBI team are sent to investigate the woman's background, and her kidnapping.

I found this book a tough enough read, as the author certainly piles on the misery. He has created an evil, sadistic killer, who just sees killing as a business, with no human emotion whatsoever, and there are some scenes in the story that made unnerved me, to say the least. Worth reading if you like your thrillers served gruesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Gripping Book 16 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
Fantastic book. Another brilliant episode in Smokey's life. This book had me sitting up in bed page turning till the early hours, so unbelievably gripping and as always plenty of suspense and twists and turns. Would recommend this author a hundred times over. I am so glad I stumbled across him when I was on holiday swapping books with other holiday makers! I have now read all of his books and eagerly await the next!

4.0 out of 5 stars really enjoyed 3 Sep 2010
By Sian Louise VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Book 4 in the Smoky Barrett series.

And again a very good book. I love this author, he doesnt fail to deliver with a good book.

Story starts with one of the main character's wedding, and a woman being dumped out in the middle of it, which is the start of the teams new case.

Smoky is a very likeable character and easily relatable (if you forget about her job and her previous experience with bad guys). If you have read the previous books then you know her story and what she has been through, but obviously it continues with this. You don't necessarily have to read the previous books to get what is going on, as references are made to the previous books etc but I think it will help.

This book wasnt the best in the series, but it was very good, if you want to read the best so far, definately start at the beginning.

My only critism is that there wasn't enough story with the team. They were all kinda in the background. And the build up was quite slow, and wasn't as impacting as it has been in his other books. It would not put me off reading any of his future books though. In fact I cannot wait for the next one, even though there is no date for it yet.
