Safely bank and shop online without fear of identity theft thanks to AVG's new Identity Protection technology

Surf, and search with confidence, with LinkScanner® checking web pages at the only time that matters - right before you click that link.

LinkScanner® takes over where anti-virus can't go - into the depths of web pages you haven't even visited yet. Whenever you're on the web, the moment you go to click on a link, LinkScanner analyzes the page behind that link to tell you whether there's something nasty hiding there. For added peace of mind, you also get safety ratings for your Google, Yahoo! and Bing/MSN search results. Identity Protection makes sure your passwords, credit card information, bank account details, and other valuable data are safe from even the newest and most sophisticated threats. It's constantly on guard, watching to make sure no program on your PC is doing something it shouldn't. If it finds something misbehaving, it simply shuts it down. So your data is safe. Think about it. Just one software package to protect you from every trickster, scam artist, cybercriminal, hacker, and spammer lurking out there - including brand-new threats that haven't been identified by other security software companies.

AVG Internet Security 9.0 gives you complete protection for everything you do on your computer - online or off.

Great features

4.0 out of 5 stars Effective but probably not worth it. 4 Jan 2010
Having used AVG 8.5 and 9.0 free editions for years now , i thought that they were always very good considering the company was offering them free through a number of sites on the net, but after taking advantage of the free ones i thought i will upgrade to the full edition. Overall its the exact same interface as the normal free version of AVG, its got a few extra fretures, most of which i have found useless, the only one which i have employed is the firewall and thats because i hate the one built into windows, so i was able to turn it off and use the AVG one. Overall it doesn't do enough new things compared to the new one in my opnion to warrant paying the additional money. If anyone is looking for a good security software i would recommend that get the free edition of this(built in anti-virus and anti-spyware), and get a good firewall from another company offering one for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly very good, but with a niggle or two 27 Feb 2010

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is the full internet security suite from AVG, including the antivirus, identity protection, firewall, spam filter etc.

I have come across some antivirus packages in the past that slow the host computer to a point it becomes almost unusable, just by running in the background and testing things as they open and close. With AVG I barely notice it's running at all - the only clues are the icon in the system tray and the periodic bubble that tells me it's updating. Using the scheduler I let it run the full system scan during the night when I'm not otherwise using the PC.

It scans incoming emails for viruses, although I can't say how effective it is because I've never had anybody send me a virus. It doesn't seem to flag the occasional phishing email that comes through asking for my details, although given the target site presumably isn't trying to put anything onto my machine that's understandable, if a little limiting. The anti-spyware has never warned me of anything although I suspect that's more due to me never picking up spyware than the software failing. It also filters for spam (a feature not found in the stand-alone antivirus software) - this seems to work although can be a little trigger happy and it's not always clear why a mail has been tagged. As expected it offers whitelist functionality so certain domains can be flagged as safe. It's also a nice touch that it just tags suspected spam with a [SPAM] entry in the subject line so you can decide for yourself how to handle it.

When a full system scan is underway on my (dual core) desktop I can still use the machine much as before, although processor-intensive operations tend to take longer. On a single core machine the full system scan can have a significant impact on overall performance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Usual AVG quality. 25 Mar 2010

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I've been an AVG free user for years. Intermittently I've used other, paid-for, anti-viruses but have always gone back to AVG. I barely know that it is there; my system doesn't seem to slow down with a full scan underway and it keeps out most viruses.

The paid for versions add more functions, some of which are definitely very useful, others depend on how you use your computer. For instance, a useful feature is the anti rootkit tool, it keeps out the most pernicious, nasty threats that the free version doesn't, while the game-mode may be handy for gamers, others may get little use from it. The link scanner is also handy, finding dangerous links in the results of internet searches.

I've had little opportunity to find out how well phishing protection, identity protection and anti-spam work, it may be that they work so well I haven't noticed them or simply that no threat has appeared. A quick look in the advanced settings shows a host of processes monitored though.

A really quick and easy setup. Recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful but.... 15 Mar 2012
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
....does it actually do much more than the free version? The only two things I am interested in, the linkscanner and email scanner, are currently available on the free version of this software. It's nice to have all the extra options there in case anything does go wrong, but for me this is unlikely as I am careful with what I view, download etc. However for those who are less computer-literate I can see how the more invasive parts of this package could come in useful as a last line of defense (and for peace of mind). Installation was relatively pain free, I just had to remove the free version first. Perhaps the next version will have the killer app to make a purchase really worthwhile.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
You do get extra benefits for having bought the product, but I would say that generally speaking people tend to use the free version of AVG along with a free firewall.

It all works well and fine but seems to be strange to be buying it when you can get at least part of the product free.

A good security package but if you know your stuff and do your research you could probably do better in downloading a free trusted firewall to go with the free version.
