AVG Internet Security 2012, 2 PC, 1 Year License (PC)

Instruction booklets are slightly confusing so suggest reading both through first and deciding which to follow. I chose to register during the installation process using the Sales Number (temp 30 day licence) supplied on the registration card. On completion of the installation, my copy of the actual licence number was emailed to address I supplied for safe keeping, this option proved to be a fairly quick exercise. I was also asked to remove the old security software before installation of AVG.

The operation of the security software once installed on our laptop running Win.7 was quite easy to action and to date no security/virus issues have been encountered. This is only the second time I have attempted installation of internet security software but AVG was easier for my inexperienced/older mind! A couple of final point (which may be obvious to some) first, as soon as you install the software it runs dually from that date so, if you install on one in January but onto a second pc in June you will only have cover for the second machine for 7 months - this is what will happen to us because our second laptop`s security software doesn`t run out for another few months yet - however this is still more cost effective for us compared to what we were paying before. Secondly and quite bizarrely the laptop seems to have speeded up considerably!

Installed on vista windows system. Tried after a few years of McAfee and very disappointed. The pc/registry clean up you have to pay extra for, comes free with McAfee.

Frequent problems getting outlook 2003 to work - often freezes several times before working. Sometimes shows spam in inbox and then dissappears to spam folder after about a minute!

Tempted to scrap the annual period and resort back to McAfee.

Granted, competition in the anti-virus software market is fierce! True, there are so many out there and one has to be careful about what they use, especially if one's business relies on technology heavily!

Hence, I've decided to give this AVG Internet Security software a go on the basis of the very good reviews that the free versions by the company have received over time!

So, I installed this on my sister's laptop, which is an old, slow machine, but requires both a firewall and a security solution. The installation process was straightforward enough. However, one big con (potentially) is the whole validation process one has to go through with waiting to receive the full licence number via e-mail (or any other format) before fully operational. I consider myself fortunate for receiving the licence number only 2 minutes after the provision of my email, but there have been mentions of hours before being able to finalise the installation.

Since then, I let AVG run a full scan on a laptop that hadn't had a proper check in over 6 months. It worked brilliantly and was not very demanding on an old machine as I expected. Also, I went on a couple of websites for my niece and nephew to be kept busy and either play an online game and/or watch short clips (of playmobil especially!) and the software managed to pick up and block a couple of potentially harmful adware, etc. Granted too that if you want Family safety, you have to fork out extra, but nowadays one can set up one's own restrictions on Windows, etc.

All in all, a reliable software for perhaps a computer that is more vulnerable and you want to protect by putting behind a firewall and anti-virus! Don't expect miracles, nevertheless, just good old AVG protection in action!
