Product Description

The AV-50DL Finger Pulse Oximeter answers the physician, medical, home health care, sports and aviation markets' demand for a lightweight, inexpensive monitor for measuring blood oxygen saturation (%SpO2) and heart rate during physically active and high-altitude activities. The AV-50DL finger pulse oximeter offers the user a greater ability to monitor these vital signs under motion and is less expensive than most available devices.

The AV-50DL operation is based upon a uniquely patented algorithm that use dual 'see-through' sensor technology for the accurate measurement of blood oxygen saturation levels and heart pulse rate. Please note however that the AV-50DL will NOT monitor SPO2 during activity and movement. You must stop the current activity and take the reading while stationary. Movement will cause readings to be affected by artifacts

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality and value 9 Nov 2011
I was recently hospitalized due to extreme shortness of breath which my GP correctly suspected was due to lung embolism. The only certain clinical sign of this (until confirmed by CT scan) was the oximeter reading (also confirmed by blood gas analyses). After excellent treatment at the hospital I bought this oximeter myself to be able to check the performance of my lungs.
This is one of the simplest oximeters made by Contec that specialises in this kind of medical equipment, but it fulfills my requirements. It shows the oxygen saturation of the blood, the pulse rate and even a small bar graph showing the strength of the individual pulses. It is very easy to use and fast (about 5 sec for the first reading). I even carry it with me in the supplied pouch when running. As indicated in the manual you have to stand still to get a stable reading. As far as I can check it is very accurate. It does not work on rechargeable batteries - it needs 3 V. But a set of batteries last a very long time - about 10000 readings figuring 15 seconds per reading.
I showed the oximeter to my GP and he is buying one to carry with him on house calls.

4.0 out of 5 stars accurate 19 Nov 2011

This was purchased to monitor the oxygen levels for someone permanently on oxygen. They are really easy to use. The instructions have been translated - so enjoy the language used. We managed to test it against the ones used by the staff in the hospital - turned out to be quite accurate on the Sp02 value (+1). These clever devices shine a "light" through your finger and measure the absorption - so anything on your nail (e.g. nail varnish) will cause them problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely first class 27 Jan 2012

I am also a COPD sufferer and this compact device has proved a great boon. It needs no setting up so ideal if you are a bit of a "technophobe"!. Supplied with the snug carry case, it is small and neat enough to easily pack for holidays as well as for home use. The batteries have lasted since I started using the device last October, but I always buy the AAA batteries when they are on offer so have a ready supply at home!

I would unreservedly recommended this product to everyone

5.0 out of 5 stars Oximeter 1 Jun 2012
Verified Purchase
Bought this after attending Pulmonary Rehab Course for COPD sufferers where we were monitored using a hospital machine when exercising. After finishing the 6 week course I have continued the exercises at home as instructed. I use the oximeter to monitor myself and the readings correlate well with the readings I was getting on the hospital machine. It is very easy to use and would recommend it to anyone who may have a similar need for one.
