Product Description

Avalon is a little town on the Jersey Shore named for an ancient land in the tales of King Arthur. It is a story of love and loss, of betrayal and forgiveness, mirroring the famous legend. Mariah, brought back to the town after a long absence in order to save her family's crumbling Victorian, is forced to confront her past and unravel a mystery that has haunted her since she left in 1978.

"...there's a dreamy feel to the talk of storms and romance, adolescence and adulthood, and ancient stories and second chances. And that mood fits well with the ideas raised: of ocean waves that soften what they touch but never erase it, of a place changed by time yet still somehow outside of time, and of connections that change but never disappear. An emotional tale built of lightweight materials that has a surprising and satisfying depth." Kirkus Reviews

I was amazed at this book. Gina Miani is quite the author. I could not put this down. I read this amazing book via my Kindle on my phone. This story is amazing, beautiful, heartfelt and makes you feel like you are there. I found myself thinking and feeling I was in the midst of all of the characters and places. I did not want it to end. I am looking forward to much more from this author. Made me want to go buy a kindle so I can be prepared to read more from her. Thank you Gina. I can not wait for more from you.

Great book! I read it in just a few days and that's pretty good for me. It's a nice story with characters that you become attached to. I'll probably read it again next summer. I'm looking forward to more stories from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great beach read 8 Aug 2012

What's better than sitting on the beach reading a book set in a beach town? Those who love Avalon/Stone Harbor, NJ will delight in the local references. Miani's characters are interesting and believable. She successfully weaves ancient lore into the modern storyline. The plot unfolds at a comfortable pace with just enough complexity to sustain readers' interest. Avalon is a simple and satisfying read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasure to Read 16 July 2012

This is not typically my kind of genre - I was grossly unfair and docked one star for excessive emphasis on kissing - but this is an excellent effort. The characters are well-drawn, the story has a nice historical framework and a back-and-forth timeline that builds up the picture skillfully. The conclusion is satisfying without being preachy or moralizing, which would have been too great a temptation in the hands of a lesser writer. Most importantly, the dialogue is believable. The characters speak with individual voices and express their thoughts idiomatically. That's usually the hardest thing to get right, but Miani gets it right. Neither too short nor too long. Well done!
