A beautiful collection of Fennesz's trademark sounds. If you are a fan of Fennesz, as I am, you will love this; though he brings nothing particularly new to his sound on these tracks. Three of the pieces, with Ryuichi Sakamoto on piano, are previously released on 'Cendre'; however they fit in nicely in the overall context and flow of the album. Bear in mind that this is a soundtrack, therefore it doesn't have the same overall rich flow and body of his masterpieces, 'Venice' and 'Black Sea'. Still, a must-buy if you are anything of a fan. I would recommend it, too, as a first Fennesz purchase, because of the variety of styles he uses, within the parameters of his signature sound.

Cinematic 27 Mar. 2014

Along with the Black Sea this is by far my favorite on F's catalogue. Both stand out on top of my playlist. Cinematic, atmospheric, emotional. Brings you back to imaginary Japan in an instant. Could not recommend more. Best music available.

Movies w/o pictures 29 Nov. 2012

Fennesz does the soundtrack for the film AUN - the beginning and end of all things (also the title of the soundtrack release), and the first thing you'll notice about it is how unlike Fennesz it sounds. It's very stripped down, most songs consisting of only slow piano and droning sounds, although touches of his normal sound come through here and there. Overall, a bit bland, but it may very well fit the film it was composed for
