So far so good. You would need to spend an extra £500-£800 to get an equivalent Mac which wouldn't have the touchscreen facility. Sound quality is quite good. Keyboard has a nice feel. Screen is nice and crisp. Windows 8 takes a bit of getting used to if you are used to using a previous version of Windows but, so far as the Asus hardware is concerned, I have had no issues with it so far, it looks to be robust and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced laptop. Note: I bought mine in Sept 2013 from Amazon for just under £600 (i5 core)

I spent sometime reviewing both user (many thanks to all Amazon users for sharing their views) and expert opinions and based on a budget of £500-£600 everything pointed to this note book. It possess an exceptional touch screen which is more responsive than my next gen Ipad and smart phone, I purchased the i3 and it breezed through my daily tasks from internet, photos, gaming and using office with recently installed Fibre Optic the internet connection speed was an impressive download of 74mbps and upload of 17mbps so all signs of the "gear under the bonnect" impressed however, and this is the BIG however, the screen's output is terrible. I tweaked and tweaked in the hopeless believe that it was merely the settings but to no avail. I spoke with Asus and based on the conversation they suggested to return it. Blacks are grey-ish, colours pale - in fact its as if a thin veil of white has been place over the screens output - such a lack of definition and I struggled to make out text in "bold" from "non bold". I did read an expert review who stated screen resolution is below par but to be honest its quite simply terrible for a laptop new to the UK market in July 2013 when we are new in an era of "super High Def". The resolution on the Ipad is 10 years in front of this notebook. Having experienced and been amazed at the definition of screen the Ipad delivers I have to use this as a benchmark and having done this the Asus S550ca fails terribly.

I did some research on Asus before buying this laptop, and found that for years they've been making computer hardware parts for many of the big name pc manufacturers. Based on the favourable reports that I read, we bought this very model.
Set up was fine, processor was lighting fast and screen definition was great, etc. etc.
However, first document we created revealed that the space bar on the keyboard didn't work. Sent the laptop back, and got another one (same model).
Three months down the line, and we developed a screen fault, whereby the top 10cm of the screen was just all fuzzy (like interference on the tv). Sent back to Asus (i.e. their authorised repairer), who said a new screen was needed and it would take nearly 3 months to arrive!
Long story short, we got a refund and now heading for a similar priced Sony Vaio. Yes, lower spec, but infinately more reliable.

OMG, windows 8. Even on a touch screen is it the absolute worst piece of excrement I have ever used. Go Apple or pay extra to have Windows 7 put on it, seriously Bill Gates what were you thinking! Were you high on Crack!?
