After doing some research I settled on this monitor. Upgraded from a 22'' to this 27'' and the difference is amazing. Not only in size, but I was expecting a little degradation of quality. I was wrong. It's crisp, clear and performs well.

It displays text clearly, there's no ghosting whilst gaming and it represents colours accurately. The construction is sturdy without being cumbersome. The glossy black bezel surround was something I wasn't sure about. I thought it may reflect light too easily and thus detract from the screen display, but it doesn't. Another nice feature is that the power LED isn't prominent and like a laser beam. It's tucked away nicely under the bezel and at a sensible brightness. You can see it if you look, but it's not distracting.

The screen itself doesn't reflect light, so if you're in an office with a window behind you, you still get a decent view of your screen. Colours are deep and well represented. Blacks are deep too. Light coverage on the screen from the LEDs is actually quite uniformed. Sometimes LEDs will light the edges better than the centre of the screen, but it's surprisingly consistent across the entire surface. On it's highest setting, the screen is very bright, with whites being represented as a brilliant, eye-melting white.

As with most monitors, it comes with a host of features that you'll probably never use. Most people plug a monitor in, spend five minutes setting it up and it stays that way until it either breaks or it's upgraded. So the features of picture-in-picture and lots of colour profiles are nice to have but rarely used. I have this connected to my pc via a dvi cable and I also bought a freeview HD box and connected it via the hdmi socket. It handles both. The PC display is excellent.

For me when purchasing electronic items I take forever in deciding which to buy. There's just so much choice and just as you think you've made your selection you read an unfavourable review.

After weeks of deliberation I decided to go for the 27" Asus VE278 monitor mainly because of all the favourable reviews not from England but from the U.S and I'm so glad I made the purchase.

I'm a PC gamer and it's enhanced my gameplay more than I can say, Battlefield Bad Company 2 looks tremendous as does Civilisation V and Crysis 2 is awesome.

I'd fully recommend this monitor to anyone who's looking to upgrade.

There are a couple of very minor setbacks that I've come across so far. I'm not sure how the PIP works. Can you play a game and view a mini screen at the same time? I'm not so sure and when I put the leads into the HDMI socket from my graphics card to the monitor, the only sound I could hear was from the monitor, not my main speakers. I'm sure this can be sorted but at the moment I'm just using the DVI connection and that looks fine to me.

Now I'm sure there's bigger, better, brighter things out there or coming out soon, but for me, right now this is the monitor I want.

One last thing, having had the monitor and seen how good it is I can't believe that I'm the first and as yet only review here on Amazon UK. What has everyone else been buying I wonder?

I bought this monitor to replace a failed 28" monitor that is no longer made.
I am slightly disappointed about having to lose an inch, size does count. Having said that, the monitor is superb.
I use the monitor with Autodesk 3DS MAX. I am a graphical designer and I NEED a decent monitor to do my work on. This monitor eclipses my previous monitor by a huge amount!
The shading levels are far in excess of what I'm used to. I originally bought this monitor because of the sheer range of signal input options available. The reviews I had read were good, but the dynamic contrast function really makes a difference. Lines on the drawings that I would normally have trouble seeing are standing out from the background objects.
The controls are a bit awkward at first to get around as I had no manual in the box. I don't know whether this is normal.
Other than a possible missing manual, no complaints. I cannot recommend this monitor highly enough.

Pros: Very detailed in dark areas, real life colour reproduction, stable, brighter than the sun, sleek and flashy, good build, stupendous gaming performance (seriously..have never had a better screen for gaming), good connectivity, no dead pixels or screen bleed, even back lighting, shortcut buttons for sound and brightness, good pixel density for sitting at a distance of 12 inches (that's very close..!!)

Con: Massive con for me but maybe not for you, the picture in picture function can only display VGA and DVI at the same time, or HDMI and VGA at the same time, but not DVI and HDMI together. So if you have a DVI PC connection and a HDMI Playstation 3 connection and want to game (COD =P) on the PS3 while watching your stocks on the PC or something you can't =P (unless your computer is VGA connected, then you have no problems)

Had it for 2 months now by the way, no problems.

Overall 9/10 but in 5 star terms its 5/5..

There is a full video review on Youtube I have put up, by d1ean, called "Asus VE278Q 27'' LED 1080p HD monitor review" , I hope it answers your questions, and if not, please ask away, here or on Youtube!
