Very problematic card 15 May 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
This card did not work properly in either of the machines I tried it in, one Windows 7 (x64) and one Windows 8 CP (x64). The behaviour was the same in each case - the card would not be available after Windows had woken from sleep mode or hibernation. The only way to revive it was to open the Change Adaptor Settings screen and then disable and re-enable the card. Internet browsing was fine but it would display the same behaviour when browsing network shares or streaming media, again I would have do the disable/re-enable trick but it would not take long for it to drop out again.

I did some research online and found several posts describing exactly the same symptoms I was seeing so I returned the NIC to Amazon.

I now have a D-Link DGE 528T - Network adapter - PCI - EN, Fast EN, Gigabit EN - 10Base-T, 100Base-TX, 1000Base-T (which was less than £1 more expensive than the Asus) and it works flawlessly in Windows 7 and 8. File transfers with the D-Link average about 78Mbps which is a good improvement over the Asus which averaged around the 66Mbps mark.

defective NIC ? 8 Jun 2011
I installed this NIC on my PC with windows XP and a Asus A7V8X-X motherboard. It worked fine with a 100Mb/s router but when connected to a 1Gb/s switch a "network cable unplugged" message is shown. The only way to get this NIC working is to change from AutoSense to 1000Mb/s (or viceversa) in the configuration window and restart the driver. Also unplugging and plugging several times the ethernet cable sometimes wakes up the card.
I tried with a different cable, I tried another switch, I tried the same card under Linux Ubuntu: nothing! I tried this card on another (newer) PC: nothing!! The message "network cable unplugged" keeps appearing. I borrowed a Zyxel card and installed in my PC and everything was fine. No worth sending it back! Very disappointed indeed!!

Surely a network card just works? Well this one did. Dell computer, XP OS. Plug it in, load up the drivers and away we go.

Can someone now tell me how to fix XP?
