If you’re a corporate Web site developer or a small business owner responsible for maintaining your own site, ASP.NET is the technology that can give you that competitive edge. If you’re familiar with earlier incarnations, ASP.NET For Dummies is a great way to get up to speed on the changes and enhancements in the .NET version.

ASP.NET For Dummies gets you going in a hurry. Instead of having to wade through pages of theory before you can actually play with the technology, you get to jump in and create your first ASP.NET page in the very first chapter! Find out how to

  • Understand ASP.NET and Visual Basic .NET terms and languages
  • Create cool elements with ASP.NET’s built–in objects
  • Discover ways to let Web site users enter information and get responses
  • Validate user input
  • Use the .NET Framework Class Library to teach your applications new tricks
  • Enable users to access information from a database and keep the information up to date
  • Combine ASP.NET with other technologies to create more exciting Web applications

There’s even a bonus CD–ROM packed with information for Classic ASP veterans, two great bonus applications, and a sample database. If you’re a newcomer, you’ll find plenty of background to get you up to speed. If you’re an experienced programmer, go right to the new stuff and sample applications. Either way, ASP.NET For Dummies will help you make your Web site a sight to behold.

Superb... 28 Sep 2003
Format:Paperback
This book was my first order from Amazon, and I was in no way disappointed.

I'm a programmer. My favourite languages (before .NET) were/are Visual Basic and ASP. Just lately there's been so much hype and praise about the .NET languages, I wanted to check out what it was all about.

I converted my site (http://www.aaronhudson.co.uk) from just HTML (.html/.htm) to ASP, and shortly after learnt the basics of ASP .NET and "upgraded" it again. I've never looked back. Things make so much more sense.

I decided to buy this book mainly because I prefer to have a "bible" reference to programming... a book, which you can return to if you forget something. And I think I've found it. No, I know I've found it.

The book is obviously aimed at people starting at ASP .NET... like me. Bill Hatfield knows that the .NET Framework isn't a simple topic to people looking to get on the ladder, and utilizes his experience to explain everything along the way. Which is the best way to do it.

Superb book. I fully recommend it.

This book does exactly it says on the tin.

From the first chapter you are hooked in to wanting to learn more and more about ASP.Net. Brilliant for beginners who want to know what ASP.Net is all about.

As a programmer with no .Net experience, i was a bit unsure about how Microsoft would change ASP but after reading the book I am a convert to the Microsoft way of thinking!

This book is a very easy to follow intro to producing web sites with ASP.net. If you've never done any programming before you should find this a good introduction to programming ASP.net (as long as you're reasonably comfortable with a PC).

One point though. ASP.net can be used with any of several languages (C++.net, C#.net, VB.net etc). This book just looks at Visual Basic (it couldn't possibly cover them all!) so if you've already started to build a site using another language this book might not be the best one for you.

A very worthwhile investment though.
