Product Description

Product Description

ASP Made Simple provides a brief introduction to ASP for the person who favours self teaching and/or does not have expensive computing facilities to learn on. The book will demonstrate how the principles of ASP can be learned with an ordinary PC running Personal Web Server, MS Access and a general text editor like Notepad.

After working through the material readers should be able to:

* Write ASP scripts that can display changing information on a web browser
* Request records from a remote database or add records to it
* Check user names & passwords and take this knowledge forward, either for their own web-development projects or as a stepping-stone to understanding more formal texts

*Exercises and material builds up into a simple project, which is a customizable shell
*Starts from first principles and does not assume the reader is a scripting expert
*Constructed to give all the information needed to build a web site with database connectivity

brilliant introduction. takes the subjects and explains it in a very coherent, focused and clear way. I have looked at some books - but none was as clear and focused. The best book to introduce a beginner to ASP. highly recommended. now I am waiting for more advanced ASP book by the same writers...or actually - any book by the same writer will be at the top of my reading list

A good introduction 18 Feb 2004
Format:Paperback
I bought a copy of ASP Made Simple because I couldn't devote the time to ploughing through those giant, expensive tomes you usually see on this kind of subject. The authors have done a good job in making a complicated topic understandable. The book project code is clever in that it sets out to make a rudimentary working database-backed site rather than simply demonstrate coding principles. On the negative side there are one or two typos in the listings, but apart from that this is a good little book, handy for fellow autodidacts and students limited by time and budget.

Simplicity 9 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I thought ASP Made Simple was an excellent book for beginners, especially for me - (I'm a grpahic designer, not so much a tech head). I found it easy to understand, easy to follow, jargon free. Although there was a little problem with the code, it did cause me some confusion (only happened with the first printing apparently). I got in touch with the dudes who wrote the book via the publishers and solved the issue no worries.
To the authors - Thanks for the simplicity!!

Marco McNabb; now a guru ASP developer!
