More About the Author

I started writing language KS4 coursebooks as there weren't any satisfactory ones available for the new IGCSE language exam I was teaching overseas. I didn't like the shallow mechanistic approach to literature in A level revision guides. so I then became involved in starting off a series of Literature teacher packs and study guides. I thought it would help teachers to be able to find all the relevant resources and background materials in one place. I have now just completed a 3-year, 9-book suite for KS3 English Checkpoint, as it is the foundation for IGCSE English First Language,so now there is complete secondary curriculum coverage for English teaching, for home and overseas schools.
I've lived and worked as an English teacher in Athens, Cyprus, Cairo and Azerbaijan, thanks to my partner being an international school headteacher.I was also lucky enough to travel extensively to Eastern Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and China while marketing for a boarding school in the UK and working as a consultant and trainer for an exam board. I love hot climates and, to be honest, spend as little time in the UK as possible for that reason. I make regular trips to Dubai (where my son lives) and homes in Italy and Greece, and am ticking off places further afield that have been on my wishlist for some time and are now finally possible, ie Australia, New Zealand, North America and Canada.
I was living in Oxford and then moved to Cambridge, which is more different than I expected, although I was born in the fens (Ely)and should have realised that. I am learning Italian and writing a novel when not marking exam papers, which is most of the summer. So pleased that marking is now done on-line!
The plan is probably to go and live in Italy eventually - as long as the UK stays in the EU. In the meantime I enjoy horse-riding and being a housesitter - the more dogs the better!

2.0 out of 5 stars Book's fine but shame about poor packaging 14 Mar 2013

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The book is really good - if slightly simplistic in places and I bought it to replace one that a past pupil had walked off with and never returned. Sadly, it was sent in such flimsy packaging that the front cover was all creased and bent and the pages inside folded over. I was pretty annoyed about this, especially since I had to pay a premium price that was more than the original book I purchased.
