Product Description

The Archos 101 internet tablet is a tablet who' s choice you'll be proud of. You'll have in your hands the best of the highly desirable Android technology with a large, high-resolution 10.1 inch display and a slim and light profile.

Beyond containing your window into the Internet and your HD multimedia, your device is completely customisable with a world of apps to make it your personal tablet. With more people looking toward this new trend in Internet tablets, Archos has carefully matched the power of the Android platform to a seductive design that will have heads turning. With the adjustable leg stand, you will always have the best position to tap out your emails, view a movie or enjoy the photo frame application. Whether you're looking at the Archos 101 in landscape or portrait mode, your pictures will look bright and crystal clear on the high-resolution 1024 x 600 resolution display. It doesn't matter if you have it in your hands or if it's standing on a table, you will always be impressed by the quality of the screen. Android is the application framework developed by Google for connected mobile devices, coming with a full pack of connected apps such as a web browser and email application.

The 5 home screens of the Android user interface on the Archos 101 allow advanced personalisation; icons can be placed, moved or erased with just a flick of a finger. Thanks to the home screen widgets, users can instantly access their favourite applications. Basically, this is what you see on your product screen, but ten times bigger. With it's TV output, the Archos 101 internet tablet displays every Android screen on your wide screen TV. You can then browse your files or the Internet from your couch. And guess how immersed in your 3D games you could be using the device as a steering-wheel.

Want to be connected anywhere?. Just plug your mobile phone (equipped with 3.5G and Bluetooth technology), simply pair it up to your Archos 101 internet tablet via Bluetooth or even via USB cable. This will give you easy access to the Internet directly on your device anytime and anywhere. There's no need to pay an extra fee when you already have a data service plan. The Archos 101 internet tablet has Samba and UPnP protocols - this means that you play your movies, videos, and photos on your Archos 101, but these files are really located on your computer in another room. You don't need to store everything on your tablet to enjoy viewing it on your tablet.

4.0 out of 5 stars 360 degree Archos 101 review 17 Feb 2011
By T. Tavlas VINE™ VOICE
I have been using Archos 101 for a month and I thought my experience might be useful for the other Amazon visitors. Before Archos 101 product, I had a chance of using iPad and Samsung Galaxy tab - which are our test tablets for the applications we developed. All tablet devices have their own pros and cons, I think as a buyer you are the one who know your needs best and you can decide which one fits your requirements.

I would like to evaluate the product from different aspects:

SCREEN SIZE:
It has 10.1 excellent high resolution capacitive multitouch screens - be careful it is rectangular, not square type like iPad and the rest of the other 10inches (if you are looking for a case - this might be good to know) in the market. You can use it comfortably at both vertical and horizontal levels. The only problem with the screen is the angle limitation - if you do not have the correct angle, you might have some difficulties in looking at the screen. Practically it means it is for only one person use (good for privacy bad for sharing) - if want to watch a romantic HD movie with a loved one, you need to put it to a long distance (such a win-win: you can both watch the movie and there is nothing between you & the loved one!).

SPEED:
It has 1GB ARM Cortex A8 processer (same with Samsung Galaxy Tab) but 256mb RAM (512mb at Samsung). It is neither fast, nor slow. Firmware upgrades can help to increase the performance and at normal system use around 100 mb is free. If you use android it is always a good idea to limit the use of widgets, as they are consuming so much power of the device. I know they are nice and using them is the nature of android but try to limit yourself with only the "must haves". In return, you are going to get a better performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Impulse buy but worh every penny. 28 Nov 2011
I bought this tablet on impulse after seeing it in my local Supermarket electrical dept I thought it would be a perfect Christmas present for my young son who was Youtube, and google mad.I had never heard of Archos, and so was brainwashed in to thinking that Apple was the only "real" tablet on the market, however at the price offered, it appeared to have all the right credentials for a "lesser quality" tablet.
What a suprise! Not only does this look and feel quality, but has all the expansion and connectivity including HDMI you could ever wish for, in addition has the facility to use your phone internet (3G) connectivity to use this tablet away from a wifi connection.
Needless to say - I couldnt put this down until I had explored all the potential of this tablet. At first it needed Flash to run IMDB, films and Youtube clips.
This wasn't immediately available and I started to lose a little of my enthusiasm, but a quick read on line from community blogs, and you need to install Arctools (Android Market which is on the device) and Flash also from Android market, and WOW!! This Archos tablet performs in every direction. The sound is excellent, the screen display is very good and clear and sharp, and the little stand (integrated) makes viewing easy when watching extended video clips etc.
I then "paired" it with my PC which let me tranfer or use files wirelessly including pictures and music through "drag and drop"
The touch sensitive screen is very positive and will rotate view as you move the tablet. It also includes a 3D game as an example, and the huge amount of Android apps available is staggering.
I have investedd in a 16gb memory upgrade(micro SD) and a nice bespoke case (ebay)
so this now looks and feels every bit the best buy ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Archos 10.1 8 Feb 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
This was bought as a present for my 80 year old father. If it is manageable for him and for my Mother who has chronic arthritis in her hands then I should think most people could use this. It is simple, straight forward and a classic tablet. I think I want one too.

There are obvious issues if you compare it to an IPad but then it isn't Ipad priced. Yes it lacks the seemless scrolling but if you haven't experienced this then you wouldn't know the difference. I found it easy to use straight out of the box but I do have an Android phone, and I like the Android market for apps. You will not be using this for much serious word processing or work but the screen works well for games, surfing and e-mails. I found the touch screen responsive and only needs a light touch, the multi home screens enable you to have screens dedicated to what suits you.

All in all I would say this was a good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really impressed 5 Feb 2011
By AndyD
A couple of recent firmware updates have really made this device come into it's own.
I've used mine now for about a month and it is just so convenient. No need to boot up the laptop for a quick google search or to take a look at Facebook. Flash works, as does youtube, AndgryBirds. I've not hooked it up to the HDMI port on the TV yet, but that's not what I bought it for. Screen size is nice - the leg to prop it up when sat on the table is a simple but very effective feature. Had a few power susspend problems originally, but not since this latest firmware update.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poor mans apple 7 Nov 2011
By Maha
Amazon Verified Purchase
As the title says this is a poor man's apple. With 8GB storage and 512MB memory along with a 1GHz processor this device is more than fast enough for surfing, video streaming, reading heavy PDFs documents and reasonable games like angry birds etc.

Android 2.2 is cool and the most recent update to the firmware is 2.4.65 and with that on, the device is working pretty well. Tethering to android phones, blackberry and iPhone is working pretty well and that is a wonderful option that even the best of the top range products doesn't seem to offer. It now supports the archos 3g key as well which is great but haven't tried that though.

Battery back up and most other essential stuff (touch wood) are working really fine and are more than expected for me. I thing they could have had some more memory on-board than 512MB. Skype video calling which I have tested today working pretty well too.

For those who are not so obsessed about brands and all the show off's that goes on in the media and some one who is looking for a real value for product this is probably the best thing to go for rather than Ipad2, Galaxy tab or even the kindle for those who thing the kindle has too little to offer.

Thanks & Regards,
Maha
