I bought one of the earliest Black and Decker workmates in 1973, one of the ones made of cast aluminium (or is it zinc) alloy. It served me faithfully until one of the castings fractured near a pivot recently. After looking into the alternatives - scrapping and replacing, welding, repair using screws and aluminium strips - I decided to give glue a try. I have used Araldite for repairing many things over the years, but not metal. In the event, it has proved possible to obtain a very neat and unobtrusive glue joint with Araldite rapid steel glue and the joint (which is normally in compression when the workmate is open) has held perfectly so far.
