of all the scanner radios i.ve had over the last 30 years this one is far the most useless by a long way,,,always locking up which means taking the batteries out to reset it,,exchanged it for the Albrecht AE33H, same price and does the job with no complaints..

Sorry....not impressed. Yes it was cheap, and way better than 'none scanning' air band receivers...but I found it insensitive, and with noisy audio. For someone on a tight budget then I supose it's OK, but I'd suggest saving up for a better quality device.

Works OK near an airport (about 1km) but is not as sensitive as the old, cheap Roadstar receiver that I have had for years (don't think those are still made). Put the two of them on the same frequency and the Roadstar mostly beats the AR109. An advantage of the latter is that it has the squelch facility. Away from my nearest airport I am used to hearing some transmissions from over-flights on the old radio, but the AR 109 does not pick those up. I wonder how it would compare with a more expensive scanner?

I bought this Scanner last September. I have used it only 4 times at Bristol Airport...It worked OK for the first three times then it stopped working on the 4th ! I used rechargeable Batteries that were supplied...when it failed i put in two Duracell's...No joy..then.went back to the rechargeable ones...it came on momentarily and that was it..Dead as a dodo..although still displaying the Airports frequency....(The rechargeable Batteries were fully charged beforehand ! ) I find this Scanner pretty cheap and plasticky and the On/Off button on the top would turn it on only when it felt like it!
Overall very disappointed and i have since bought a Uniden Bearcat EZ133XLT...what a difference...wish i'd bought this in the first place The AR109 has now been binned...!!
