looks and sounds great
only downside is instead of a headphone socket, they put an aux input ... what the hell, how totally stupid
apart from that, its superb

The radio looks and sounds great, only issue is that it supplied with a European plug only so I had to get an additional power cable.

Great little radio. I bought it in white - which was actually more a cream colour, which I prefer! Anyway, it gives a good reception; nice and clear and is a joy to look at. Ours is in the kitchen and is great value overall.

Sorry - but I have to drastically re-write this review. Originally I'd given it 4-stars, but I'm now demoting it to 2-star. This is a total re-write. I'd considered giving it 1-star, but the radio does look and sound OK.

The unit is fundamentally flawed. If you put (expensive) batteries in it - these will drain even although it's plugged into the mains. Normally a mains input will cancel the batteries. Not so in this case. Luckily I caught this early, otherwise this would have cost me over £10 in wasted batteries. Really bad design. When I pulled out the batteries the whole thing went dead even although it was still plugged into the mains.

Previously I'd deducted a star because the tuning dial was off - reading 98 when it should have read 96.

Again, this is a pity because the radio does look and sound good.

I did some research and found that Akai used to be a highly respected top-end hi-fi brand before they went spectacularly bankrupt a decade ago and were bought over by people who are now apparently cashing-in on what's left of the brand image. They buy stuff from China and stick an Akai badge on them.

My apologies to anyone who might have been swayed by my previous review.

This looks great. The problem it is quite tricky to tune into a station and keep it there. You have to keep fiddling with it and the sound is not true. So vintage in style but also vintage to use.
