Appleseed XIII is a 13 episode series that continues the popular Appleseed franchise. The show is very unique in its creation in that although Production I.G are the studio that bring us the series, each episode was made with another Japanese animation studio fronting the production. (There are a series of extras called "The Inside", that Manga UK have said will be included, documenting this.) The entire series is also CG animation as oppose to how anime is usually presented.
I'm a big fan of Masamune Shirow's work, especially Ghost In The Shell and Dominion Tank Police, that's partly why I wanted to watch the show.
The setting is a place called Olympus following a world-war. Olympus is meant to be a place of peace, but there are tensions present. In turn these tensions lead to some great actions sequences involving mechs. (If you're a fan of fighting robots you'll get a kick out of this. The action sequences in this programme look fantastic!)
I will add that I've no previous experience of the Appleseed universe in any way, so I was tentative going in that I would be completely lost. But Appleseed XIII makes sure to cater to those who either are or aren't familiar with the universe, delving into the back story of the characters as well as the universe in general.
Definitely worth checking out in my opinion.
