I bought this after buying a cheap cable off ebay, I should have just bought this one first! The non Apple aftermarket cables that you can get hold of from ebay will not work with a late 2009 onwards ipod ( even after plugging it into an Apple dock!) so I bit the bullet and bought this one. These retail at around £36 so getting one from Amazon at less than half the price was a real bargain. I plugged this lead into the back of my TV and played a video through my ipod (make sure that you plug the correct leads into the audio as these could easily be mixed up as the colours are identical, if you look carefully though you will see whats what). Great picure (I wasn't expecting too much after reading some of the other reviews on here) and great sound, far better than I had hoped for. If you're going to hook this up to a TV quite a lot then it may be worth investing in a universal dock as you then wont need to keep plugging and unplugging the cables, ideal for downloading films to your ipod and watching them on TV. Ok so some reviews point out that the remote that you get with the ipod dock is limited but I'm reviewing the component cable not the ipod or ipod dock. The bottom line is, If you want to hook your ipod up to your TV and obtain the best possible sound and picture then this is what you need, happy viewing.

My wife was desperate to play the movies and TV programmes she had downloaded onto her iPod on the television. She has a 5th generation iPod Nano and I read lots of reviews of the various options - from using a standard camcorder AV cable (didn't work, even after trying all possible combinations of plugs to sockets) to composite cables to component cables. Many people found that some cables worked on some machines and some didn't so I was left somewhat bewildered. I didn't want to fork out the full £36 plus p&p from the Apple Store and so I hoped that the mostly favourable reviews for this would do the trick - at half the Apple price - eventually deciding on a component cable as they seemed to offer better quality picture than the composite.
From what I've seen of it so far the picture quality looks pretty good, although the audio is less so and sounds a little echoey. If that portion of the cable was long enough we could try plugging the audio jacks into the surround sound system, but unfortunately the sockets are on the back left of our TV and the subwoofer of the surround sound system is positioned a couple of feet off to the right of the TV.
The addition of a USB cable and mains charger and adapter is a useful addition, but it's a pity that you can't also plug the USB into the TV to charge as you watch it that way. If you do the iPod thinks its docked and nothing happens.
To sum up then, this cable definitely works for the 5th generation iPod Nano. Unfortunately I can't comment on its suitability for any other product.

Good original Apple cable. Linking iPhone 4G to Panasonic 50 inch plasma with this componant cable gives good results. Picture quality very reasonable for the file size imported into iTunes and then iPhone. I have not tried any video in 720 recorded on the iPhone yet but expect very good results. Note this lead (as do any of them) only outputs a picture for some applications such as iPod movies & uTube. It does not put the iPhone normal screen (including such applications as maps etc) on to the TV out to be displayed. This is an iPhone limitation (and the relevant APP)not the lead. This lead is a useful item worth having if you are likely to watch any iPhone movies on your HD TV.

Bought this to connect my iPhone 3GS to a 48" LCD TV for films. It works a treat. I was impressed with the good build quality - the AV connectors fit snugly to my TV. The charger which has a U.S. adaptor too is a bonus. Yes you cannot use it for other iPhone apps etc, but that's not what it is designed to do. It is designed for media playback - and it does it well. I was sceptical about the quality of a downloaded movie on a big screen, but was wrong - excellent quality may banish future purchases of DVD's !

I give the cable a full 5/5 stars!! it is pure quality!
but there is good and bad with the iSoftwere side.

The Good: Works great with the youtube app! and watching videos, video recordings, photo slideshows, and the few apps that are compatable.
the quality looks HD all round.

The Bad: The home screen is not compatible, most apps are not compatible. And (for me) it only shows the photos in slideshow mode, you cant view them individualy. Also the picture doesn't quite fill the screen! (my screen is a 32" Samsung 1080p TV)

i'v only used this cable with my iphone 4.

Conclusion: if your going to get a cable of this type, this is your best bet! even thought it is overpriced! you get what u pay for in quality.

Purchased cable to view video from my iphone 3GS on 47" Plasma TV. Didn't expect too much in regards to display quality but very surprised. Not much difference to watching DVD. Sound and picture excellent. Am also involved with community cinema and even been able to connect iPhone to the composite input of the projector and show video on 16ft screen. The quality of the cables is excellent, as you would expect of an Apple product. I can't fault them.
