I've been trying to save APN settings for my 3g dongle (Huawei E1750) unfortunately the Tablet doesn't save the settings after I press save. Has anyone else come across this problem or have any suggestions? The problem is not with the dongle but the fact that the settings wont save.
Thanks Chris, sounds like there is definately something wrong then. I got the E1750 as that was the recommended dongle for this tablet. I've tested it on my laptop and works fine but is not detected by the tablet. The tablet wont even let me save the APN settings manually. Very frustrating especially as the tablet is fantastic for everything else. I maybe need a firmware fix or something???
if I get one of these Huawei E1750 things, does that mean I can use the internet anywhere. Please be kind.I'm in no way a techie in any form...I've bought this for myself to use on hols.We have a caravan and often stay in remote places with no wifi conection. So if i hade this little device could I use it to get emails and such. Also what we looking at cost to buy and also how much to use?? Thanks
I have a Huawei dongle (not the same model - E585 I think) and it quite easy to set up. It connected to my tablet straight away at my sisters house where I had previously tried it with a laptop but had no luck. So for some reason I think the mobile dongles work better with tablets. I would advise getting one from argos (30 day return policy) try it out and get a refund if it doesnt work.
This is a very old thread, and things have moved on since that posting from back in January You'd be better off asking in a more recently active thread on the topic where people with more recent experience of 3G dongles have contributed (use the search facility to locate one).
If you are on Android 4 (ICS), saving APN settings shouldn't be an issue, because it shouldn't be necessary. The correct APN should be read from the SIM each time. It makes life simpler of course if you have a SIM with only one APN for the tablet to choose from, such as a dedicated 3 data SIM sold with, or for use with, a dongle. (Sims taken from data-enabled 3 phones rather than dongles can cause APN problems)
I wasn't able to solve the problem despite lots of searching on the internet for solutions. The problem did however, disappear after I upgraded to ICS. It now recognises the dongle without any problems.
