Product Description

The first thing todays demanding traveller seeks is a good friend who lives in the city he or she wants to explore-someone to reveal things that are not normally included in traditional tourist guidebooks. You need those who know a city intimately to show you their favourite neighbourhoods, streets, buildings, museums, bars, restaurants, stores, historic sites and places with unusual or panoramic views. Another Travel Guide Riga is the key to the capital of Latvia. It presents a true insiders Riga as experienced by artists, architects, entrepreneurs, journalists, photographers and other impromptu tour guides who love their city and will happily share its secrets with you. Discover Riga in all its diversity-from its classic attractions to the lesser-known gems on its outskirts and the well-hidden spots only those in the know can show you. Another Travel Guide Riga takes a creatively visual approach that is radically different from that of typical travel guides. The photographs-commissioned especially for the travel guide-capture the unique essence of each location or object listed, offering a glimpse of the experiences and sensations that make a visit to Riga unforgettable. The guide includes detailed maps of the city and its environs and tear-off picture postcards.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than just a Guide 17 Dec 2009
As a visitor to Riga, this book is an absolute must. It provides a unique insight (even for someone like me who has been travelling to Riga for the last three years) to the wide variety for cultural venues and places of interest. It's wonderfully written and photographed by individuals who are passionate about what Riga has to offer. Yes, the book is 'another travel guide' but it's also a companion, which for me is like rediscovering Riga all over again!

I have to say, it has made the trip much more than I expected.
The city really deserves a lot more than your usual stag destination, I was there for my 30th treat!
NEW and OLD Riga, a joy to read both there and on the plane back.
I gave my own ratings (out of 5) next to the map - must say mostly 4/5.
If you are into quirky shops and want to eat well, its a fab insight into the city.
LOVE the binding of course.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but Lacking in essentials 4 May 2010
Just back from Riga and the guide was a godsend in the off the beaten track places it told me about. However, the way it lacked such basic info as costs, opening times, decent maps, and useful phrases was infuriating. So close to being great but really only half a guide book.
