5.0 out of 5 stars OVERLOOKED LIVE ALBUM!! 20 Feb 2010
By Mr Blackwell TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Released in 1980 as their career foundered this is a fabulous testament to a criminally overlooked band, often derided as KISS with keyboards, the truth is that actually they were superior musicians in every way, especially Punky Meadows(guitar) and Gregg Giuffria (keyboards) along with a solid rythmn section Barry Brandt/Felix Robinson (drums/bass) only Frank Dimino(vocals) occasionally the weak link and an accquired taste.

Opening with the thundering 'Tower' the standout from their 1975 debut,Angel show their class immediately, had Deep Purple penned this it would be hailed as an all time classic .The music continues with rockers such as 'Can You Feel It and pop like'Aint Gonna Eat Out My Heart...'

As with most live albums of the time, solos spots abound and this is no exception,as the previous reviewer stated ,the keyboard solo is worth the purchase cost itself,Giuffria proving to be a keyboard maestro,he is up there with the emersons, wakemans, lords and hensleys.

Disc 2 open with a superb cover of 'All The Young Dudes' cetainly my favourite version before Punky raises the roof during 'Rock n Rollers' with his solo spot, cant believe he turned down the gig with Kiss,Barry Brandt shows his prowess with his solo in White Lightning(from '77's On Earth ..... disc)

The album comes to a close with 3 heavy rockers with 'Feelin Right being the pick, the final track is a studio number from the motion picture FOXES namely '20th Century Foxes', a fantastic glimpse of what could have been and given it was actually recorded prior to KISS's 'i was made for lovin you' it makes you wonder what if ,casablanca had kept faith/support with ANGEL.

This is a fantastic disc and every lover of rock should own it.Well done to BGO for the release, excellent sound quality, excellent booklet and neat slip case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pomp rock live and at it's over the top best!! 18 May 2007
Format:Audio CD
This album is worth buying just for Gregg Guiffria's keyboard solo alone. They were hyped as a bit of a joke when they arrived on the scene a la Stryper or Poison, the antithesis of Kiss as far as Casablanca records were concerned. This was/is a great US live album, it has all that 70s/80s feel about it, just like "Kiss Alive", "Double Live Gonzo" or "Live and Dangerous". The songs are well crafted pomp/pop rock anthems, with a slightly tongue in cheek cheesey flavour in places, delivered very well, with a high standard of musicianship. The CD is also a must for fans of outstanding keyboard players. Bouffant haired Gregg Guiffria rates as one of the best in the business, not just for his Angel connection, but also for his self titled band, and also the awesome House of Lords. He shines on this CD as the ultimate showman. He sits, in my book anyway, comfortably alongside such greats as Mark Stanway, Don Airey, Jon Lord, Rick Wakeman etc. If you have never heard Angel before, then this album, or Angel's self titled debut album are a must. Highly recommended!! Also, try out Zon's "Astral Projector" too, an undiscovered classic*****

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly Live!... 22 Dec 2006
By Jesmorh - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio Cassette
If you are a devoted fan of the ANGEL group, this is great recording to listen: In 1980, the band presented this to the approval of their audiences; showing their musical capability and stage presence Full of pyrotechnics and magic illusions; but the most important thing...the emotion, the music, was there!...They showed their dextresity with themes like Tower, Can you feel it, Telephone exchange, Don't leave me lonely, Feeling right, White Lightning, Hold me squeeze me or Rock & Rollers; with extended solos from Gregg Guiffria, Punky Meadows, Barry Brandt and little one by Felix Robinson on Bass ("Over & Over"), making it a great show...

The extended keyboard solo of Gregg Giuffria, (just before the track "On the Rocks"), showed his dextresity, letting us know, the major league kind of a great kekboardist he was... Since the first two recordings: Angel (1975) and Helluva Band (1976), we put him at the side of keyboardist like Keith Emerson (E.L.P.), Rick Wakeman (Yes), Tony Banks (Genesis), Eddie Jobson (U.K.) or Kerry Minnear (Gentle Giant) masters of Progressive Rock.

Punky Meadows, in the Rock & Rollers song did a great bunch of classic fast licks that for moments resembles the influence of Jeff Beck (the "Blow by Blow" recording). I must Say that the sound guitar and playing style of Punky is very distictive and original...

By the other side this recording brings two live different tracks from the official discography (at least in these moment): "Twenty Century Foxes" (From the motion picture FOXES and now at the "Anthology" CD), and "All the Young Dudes" (a well known Mott the Hopple's song). This CD is a great prove of their technical habilities and an outstanding landmark of their compositional talents!...Good Luck!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great album but bad disk 20 Nov 2006
By G. Shumway - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I loved this album, I bought all the studio albums when the we released on cd. but I waited too long for this one. I did not want to buy it for what some people were selling it for(it had been out of print). So I waited and hoped it would be released again. And it finally wuz. So I bought it. Warning. BGO a small English label put this out. What a shame. Some of the quality is poor. lots of crackling in the background of some songs. But it is better than spending 50 for it from some people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why wasn't this band bigger? 21 Mar 2009
By John D. Penza - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a great live album by one of the '70s great rock bands. Somebody in their camp really dropped the ball in promoting them. This was their last official release in their heyday until An Anthology (greatest hits package) and "In The Beginning" which was primarily a Dimino/Brandt project. This live album stands up with some of the great live albums in music such as Kiss Alive!, Frampton Comes Alive,The Song Remains The Same, and numerous Rush live albums. These guys deserved to be so much bigger. The solos by all musicians were very impressive on this album. These guys were entertainers of the highest caliber. They should have hired Gene Simmons as their P.R. man; they should have been huge! I wished they'd release a dvd. I know it would be great.
