Very easy to overclock,

This review is from: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Quad-Core Processor - 3.20 GHz,8MB Cache,Socket AM3,125W,45 nm,3 Year Warranty,Retail Boxed (Personal Computers)
if your looking for an easy overclockable cpu this is what you want, all i had to do was up the multiplier in bios to 18.5x and its boosted it from 3.20ghz to 3.6ghz and it is definatly noticable on game loading times and general pc speed. but even if you dont want it for overclocking then it is the best value for money campared to rival intel chips

Good CPU and east to install, does what it say on the box and run fine. Come with a good cooler which is good, and run at 3.2 without any problem. Am sure it could run faster with the right fans and setting. Good round for the price and make.

Black Edition Rocks,

I ordered this CPU from In2Digital via Amazon but instead of receiving the 955 I was sent a 965. Now you probably wondering why I'm writing a review on a product I didn't get however the 955 BE and the 965 BE are almost identical. the 965 being clocked higher at source so runs at 3.4 GHz on installation, something the 955 can do with a simple tweak in your bios settings. As a workhorse chip it provides power and stability for most if not all of today's cpu heavy applications be it video editing/ encoding or multiple business applications all going at once. Its very easy to install and will work fine keeping cool with the stock cooler. I'm not a fan of stock coolers so I fitted an Arctic Freezer 13 pro to mine and I can run games at ultimate or extreme settings without any temperature problems. It seems capable of maintaining a heavy workload and remain relatively cool, Around 29C when idling and 42C on max load. Being a Black Edition, it has the core multiplier unlocked and allows enthusiasts or gamers to over-clock to an incredible 4GHz. For this I would strongly recommend a liquid cooling system. as a general upgrade from a dual core it is exceptional value for money. For those of you who might think ah but wait! there is the AMD Bulldozer and its cheaper in some packages, think again!! The bulldozer uses a completely different die and has not provided the speed / stability at over-clocking that was expected. If you are looking to upgrade to a quad core and like me either prefer AMD or can't / won't pay the premium price for an Intel chip then this is the CPU for you. You might consider the 960T clocked at 3.0GHz as the T standing for Thubin suggests an extra two cores that can be unlocked to give you a Hex (6) core CPU, only for enthusiast who can determine the overall stability of the unlocked cores if you can unlock them. Reported as being 30% success rate in unlocking, its up to you. You will not go wrong with a 955 if you are happy with power and speed and a good deal of overclocking capability, add a good graphics card and you can experience your games at maxed out settings. I am delighted with the performance of this chip and would recommend it for either a simple upgrade to quad or for a mid level gaming set up. I say mid level because if you were adding two graphics cards in Crossfire or SLI mode then you could probably afford the Intel 2500K. Paired with a high end single GPU card this AMD chip will perform and it has not failed me on any games I have tried or with any applications I throw at it. Remember, if this chip sells out there is always the 965 and the 960T for a little extra. Keep on keeping on AMD the war with intel is far from over but with these chips AMD have put their foot firmly on the battlefield. Next up will be the Piledriver series chips so keep your eyes on the reviews. I hope this has been helpful. Enjoy your new Quad CPU!!
