I purchased this processor because my Phenom died and I didn't want to spend a shed load of cash on another processor (being a student and all). This was compatible with my AM2+ Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 Motherboard so I decided to go for a cheaper alternative.

End result, a more than worthy replacement. Dont get me wrong my Phenom was faster but cost probably 3 or 4 times as much. This processor boots into Windows 7 Pro (32-Bit) fast and runs applications smoothly. Scores a respectable 6.3 on the Windows Experience Index (processor section). For the price I am more than pleased.

However, I did not use the retail heatsink as I had a badboy Asus one (forget the model, its big and orange) asking to be used. The retail heatsink looks fine though.

I also Game, mainly Dawn of War 2 and call of duty and there are no performance issues.

Want a cheap processor for good performance? then yes, this probably fits the bill nicely. I always find the cheaper AMD's are better than the cheaper Intels (especially the Celerons). But the high end Intels are far superior to AMD's.

good performance, cheap price. Can't argue with that eh?

I have (until recently) been running an old Pentium 4, which caused a severe system bottleneck in almost everything I did.

Enter Athlon 2 X2.
Everything is snappy and responsive, I'ts more than quadrupled my framerate in games, allowing me to fully experience them as they were meant to be.
I was getting 25 frames average in Far Cry 2 on low settings, now I get 30+ on Ultra High.

I was considering getting a similarly priced Pentium Dual-Core, but having seen benchmark results & read reviews (I really did my homework on this purchase) I decided on this CPU & have no regrets.

While Intel may hold the high end performance crown, you definetly get more bang for your buck with AMD.

Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H Micro ATX MotherboardThe AMD Athlon II X2 245 is snappy processor good enough for your usual daily task, cost and performance benefits are realized when paired of with a good mobo with AMD chipset, I used the GIGABYTE MA785GMT-UD2H which is a very nice solid m-ATX board with 2GB of memory. With extra cash you can purchase a baord that has the dedicated sideport memory to give you that extra boost in 2D and 3D apps, however of course its not a killer you may want to purchase a dedicated graphics card to get better performance. The Cpu runs well, nice temperatures, easy installation I recommend it to anyone.

This is a great processor for anyone looking to build a moderately fast PC on a tight budget. at 2.9 GHz and only 2mb of L2 cache, it is not blazing fast but it will allow you to multitask with no problem while using everyday programs such as Microsoft Office. It is also powerful enough to run new games at moderately high settings but a high-end graphics card is obviously required for this. Bottomline, it is great choice for anyone looking for a reliable, fairly fast processor at a low cost.
Perfect for HTPC 17 Sep 2010

Its more than enough CPU to handle my original intention for it. I'm using it as the brains behind my (fairly) new HTPC and it performs admirably. Currently I have XBMC running on top of Windows 7 x64. Its able to handle play back of 1080p video, including Blueray, and 5.1 audio without any hiccups, stutters, and it stays at a very comfortable 40c (+/- 1 or 2 degrees) even after hours of use. I coupled it with a Gigabyte GA-MA785GM, 4GB of DDR2800, and an 80GB 7200RPM drive. I stream all of the media over the ethernet port as well.

All in all the processor exceeded my expectations and is an excellent bargain.

I bought this CPU when my Quadcore CPU died on my home entertainment PC. This is very effective for that purpose, I overclocked it and it was even better. Great replacement, low energy consuming and affordable CPU.
