Item delivered well packed and within 48 hours of order. Another item enabling the panel to be connected directly to the battery (as the cigar lighter only has power when ignition is on), also arrived at the same time. The cable was long enough to pass from the panel on the dashboard, through the door and under the bonnet lid to the battery terminals. As it was a dull January afternoon (3pm 7th. Jan)when first fitted, I measured the power output just for curiosity and was pleasantly surprised to find it generating almost 1 amp, without load. This bodes well for charging under all conditions and am very pleased with the product.

I bought this because I have a car that was losing charge as it is not often used. I think the car alarm is the cause. The car has two normal batteries on it.
The unit is very sturdy and comes with a 12v plug suitable for a 12v cigarette socket. One major draw back is that many vehicles 12v socket is not live when the car is switched off. In my case I perservered and re-wired the socket to stay live but this job is not for someone who has limited electrical skills. There are units which come with crocodile clips that could be connected direct to the battery and you can also buy adaptors. This is not a problem with the unit but is a consideration when buying.
The unit puts out about 15 volts but this is fine for the intended purpose.
In my case the unit is not powerful enough to stop the discharge on my vehicle. I read that 10 Watt units were the most powerful recommended for a single car battery without a control unit to manage the output and I thought that as my vehicle has two batteries this would perhaps do the trick. Ulitmately the amount of trickle charge needed is also a function of the amount of leakage plus the amount of day light. It may be that as we move from winter to summer the balance will improve in my case and I think the unit is slowing the discharge. That said, this is not a criticism of the unit but rather a consideration when deciding which unit to buy.
