5.0 out of 5 stars Strange But True 18 Feb 2013
By Winkle
In the Studio I find it strange that most of my female vocalist prefer the feel and warmth of sound of these AKG K44 Headphones in preference to the normal (5 times the price)Beyer Dynamic DT100 Industry Standard phones. I must agree, having used Beyers and AKGs for many years these cheaper phones can sometimes come as a nice refreshing change to the norm, albeit these have not got the complete clarity and crispness of the Beyers, but the sound from them is more relaxing and less tiring on the ears. A bargain at the price but...... I don't think would stand up the general 'rough and tough' daily abuse the Beyer DT's would normally get from some clients. All the same, good quality sound at this remarkable price with (of course) the infamous AKG Tag on them. Now if you are set on getting some AKGs at a good price and dont like the reviews on these, spend just a couple of 's/Euro's more as I would strongly recommend the AKG K512's at a very similar price. The high's and lo's of the response are similar between the two models but the main advantage with the 512's is you can 'crank up' the level going in to them without distortion and the overall 'fit' is a bit more snug on the head. Great for Rock Guitarists who want to make their ears bleed as well as loosed the ear wax whilst monitoring their playing.... Hope this review helps.

October 2013. About 8 months on from when I bought these. They have had some typical Studio abuse from 'Frustrated Rock Guitarists' recently who put them through hell and made me crank up the monitoring volume levels in to them to excess. guess what..? the phones came through it shining all the way. More proof of their outstanding quality for the price. I still can't get it many people prefer them to the Studio Standard Beyers.. but it's been proven for itself virtually daily. As I have said before the girls love-em for their lightness and relaxing easier warmth of sound on the ears...... 'Rock On AKG Man'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value 16 April 2013

Although these might not be suitable for the needs of a high end audiophile I think for the money they represent excellent value for money. I have four pairs of these now which I use in different situations and am very happy with them. I also find them comfortable even after wearing them for some time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sounding headphones for the price. 20 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase
I have used AKG's before, and I was in need of a cheap set of phones to replace my busted Sennheisers that I use for work, so price was a factor. I looked at the reviews on Amazon before purchase, and I have to say I'm delighted with the product.

I've had them for a week or so, and so here are my first impressions....

1. Initial sound out of the box was much larger than my previous headphones, and a little tinny compared, but the bass was solid, and the sound was still clear.
2. I listen to rock/metal so they have had a good test now, and they have warmed up nicely, the tinny sound has abated, and there is a lovely wide sound with all the instruments and vocals heard clearly.
3. I use these on my HTC One, and again they provide a great sound if you're looking to use them on the move.
4. I also use these at home for gaming (Counter Strike) and they provide a good soundscape for games - not perfect, but it's not what they are designed for, but do a good job nonetheless!

Overall, I would say these are definitely worth the 5 stars, the price is amazing, the build quality is pretty good (a bit plasticy, but what do you expect for 20?) and they sound solid all round.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely powerful and lightweight! 11 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase
This set of headphones is so lightweight that I even forget I'm wearing them. Was not sure between these and the Sennheiser HD201, but even thought these last ones are more popular, the AKG K44 have better specs. They are really powerful, comfortable and muffle external noise well. Came in only a few days after requested and would definitely recommend for anyone seeking good quality headphones for an affordable price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very good quality 9 Jan 2014

Wasnt expecting much from the price of this AKG bbrand. But i was wrong, knowing AKG produces good quality headphones the price of this one doesnt means they are producing a low end headphone either. Very comfortable ear cups, thick cable, comes with a jack adapter allowing u to plugin into studio recording devices (or guitar amp in my case).

SOund is crisp and clear, not too much bass. Doesnt hurt my ears at all even after hours of use.

5.0 out of 5 stars loud 4 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase
I got these for my 96 year old, hard of hearing, dad because 115dB/v SPL was quoted, which is quite loud. He likes them.
He's already used AKG K 512 headphones for some years and likes those because they are also loud.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable quality for the money 29 Oct 2013

I bought these for the basic application of being permanently plugged into a Line6 POD, so I wasn't expecting a huge amount from these. However I was quite surprised with how they compared with my Sennheiser PXC 450 - NoiseGard Active Noise Canceling Headphones, which are more than ten times the price. Most of the treble is there but these phones have a boxy sound. If you are used to really basic phones that come with an mp3 player or a smartphone these will sound good with a bit of EQ tweaking, but if you are after super high fidelity these aren't the phones you're looking for. For most casual listening I think they are fine, but for subtlety you have to pay quite a lot more.

I think these phones are mostly intended for being useful around a studio for monitoring during recording. They are light and comfortable enough to have on for extended periods and probably solid enough to take a few knocks. For guitar practice on a little amp simulator like the POD they are ideal, or recording guitar or voice, as one other reviewer mentioned.
